Worth the fine. Had the same on an 8C. I think the plates just ruin the front end.

As the saying goes 'just write the ticket officer', do you just say that or it fell off as an excuse?

At the end of the day £40 is nothing (relatively) to keep the lines of the car, although I appreciate that you must work for your money, its an occasional expense Im sure you're more than happy to pay biggrin

Do you use a different one for each day of the week or does it depend on how you feel/weather on the day, or what your business plans may be?

This now is dealt with by a fixed penalty notice and a £100 fine.

Some call it an aesthetic tax !

Not an owner, but I am hoping this is a non endorsable offence, i.e. no points will come out of it?

No points at present- although the threat of DVLA taking back your cherished plate, has been used by some Police Authorities for repeat offenders.
This trend started in London (where the bulk of modern Supercars are garaged)
Seems you are more likely to fall foul of the law if your plate is "undersize" rather than not present (evidence of "failed" adhesive strips on front of car helps and said plate inside car)

Apart from, like, on the front of the car?

I'm surprised the penalty is so small. Especially as without a front plate one can go through front read and average speed cameras as fast as one wants!?

the front ground clearence on that first plate is so small, wouldn't be too long before it smashed off and the second plate is illegal and pretty pointless I think

The normal front plate on my car, as supplied by my dealer from new in 2010, is just fine. Never had a problem, and personally see no upside driving without one.

Really why is it illegal I was under the impression vinyl plates were legal

In which dimension is it too small?

It could be made taller without exceeding the depth of the upper "bumper"; height is not an issue.

It's not too narrow: there is no required minimum overall width, just a requirement that the border outside the first and last characters be of a certain width. The fewer the characters in the registration number, the narrower the plate may be.

As regards your broader (no pun intended) point, that there is not enough road clearance for the rigid plate, there are several hundred 599s in circulation in Europe/UK, and pretty much every other owner has found a way to affix and maintain a front reg plate, as required by law in countries which in some cases are much less tolerant of missing reg plates than UK authorities can be.

Furthermore, the 599 is a far cry from being the only car to have this problem. Again, almost all other owners have coped.

Is the penalty the same for no rear plate?

I have done 900 miles this year. Drove it in the Italian Lakes and also to the Factory. Wonderful time. Back at home have been down to the NW Ferrari meet at Mitton Hall too. Have it taxed until end of september and then will rest it up for 6 months. Only done 1700 miles now but it is my favourite car by some distance!!

What makes it so special to you?
What differences with a standard 599 do you find (if you had a standard 599)?

Have to say it was my favourite gto in the classifieds for some time, I know of a bianco fuji one also and that looks awesome!
