Pastrana,

where did you spot the missing link.
I know one of the three allegedly built is into the Ferrari museum, but always wondered where the other two are.
Wonderful and raw to a superior level!

Enrico
Looks like when it was in Carrs of Exeter...
Yes, it was, quite a while ago.

Cool thread not read that before, about the same time as I took a load of shots of the 288 GTO EVO. biggrin

back on thread, loving the shots of Andrew D's 599 GTO and 16M, very nice.

Utter ste. Flight 1 hour late. Walked miles to get out of the stty airport. Hotel lost my booking then found it, claimed it was for last night despite me showing them a printed reservation confirmation. Room service only does effing pizza after 11pm, and the only Belgian beer they have is Stella.

Deloitte are going to be in for a very tough grumpy meeting tomorrow.

LFB, just a little video to help make your mind up smile

(note the downshifts, especially going into 2nd, with the exhaust cracking and popping, sounds MUCH better in real life too)
Tried to view this...and got message saying it was blocked. Is it just me or is there a general problem?

Was quite keen to hear what it sounded like (seen a few 59GTOs - but only parked up).

Allow me to congratulate you on your amazing GTO and to apologise for some of my useless fellow Belgians.
In my defense, some of us are not complete idiots wink

Small update.

I had a very thorough look round the F12 in the Ferrari hospitality tent at Goodwood and I have a GTO test drive booked for Tuesday (Weather permitting). First up sitting in them both, they feel completely different ( I knew they would but the contrast is even greater than I had thought). I had an FF on loan and a lot of the interior carries over into the the F12 so it feels like a proper GT car. Under the bonnet, I've never seen a front engined car with the block so far back, it really is in the middle of the car. I like the design a lot, way more than the 599 GTB and IMO you can see the bloodline of 550/575 much clearer with this car than with the 599. To my eye it is a better looking car and 730bhp is a lot in any one's book. Deposit has been down for a while and as it stands a the moment, I have the 5th car from my dealer.

Sitting in the GTO feels very similar to a 430 Scud: chequer plate floor, cloth interior, 3 point harnesses and I love it. I never clicked with either the looks or the drive of the standard 599 and I think the GTO does a lot to make up for that. It looks mean and from what I've heard, it is.

I can't drive the F12 until September at the earliest but will report back after I've driven the GTO.

Be suprised if you don't like it. It's one of the greats. Beautiful engine and sublime handling. I don't know why some reported it to have edgy handling, I don't find that at all. Enjoy

The GTO is what the 599 should have been from the start. It's not a homologation car so the badge is just a marketing ploy.

As it's a safe bet that the F12 is going to be a better car it all depends on whether you think that badge is worth an extra £100k.

My 2 cents.

About all it's worth I'm afraid. First, the marketing ploy criticism is a red herring. Mankind has been built on marketing ploys. From Gauis Juluis Caesar's trip to Gaul or JFK's Man on the Moon speech before a Joint Session of Congress. Second, the 599 GTB was the car it was meant to be. An awesome machine that combined civility and elegance with blistering speed when required. Brilliant and what the F12 carries on. The 599 GTO is an incredible experience. Very different from the GTB and what the F12 is designed to be. I don't care what people think. I don't care about badges or ploys. I care about the huge freaking grin on my face when I drive my 599 GTO. Like around the M25 yesterday.

Well, I'm glad you enjoy it and I didn't say that it was a bad car, just that it won't be as good as the next one. The 458 Italia was a massive step up from the 430 Scuderia and there's no reason not to expect the same.

Its not that simple mate, the next one is always just better. The scud is a better car than the CS, yet I prefer the CS. I don't doubt that the F12 GTO or whatever it ends up being called will be technically better but that won't tell the whole story. Will I actually prefer it? Only time will tell.
If Ferraris are always getting better and better why are the oldest ones the most coveted? It's not just investment value either. The more advanced and technological the cars become, the more some of that magic is lost if you ask me.
I love the 458 but it's not a patch on the F40.
