So could you order a 355 and just spec various bits at the factory like big brake kit etc ?
Ferrari would sell certain bits but that wouldn't make the F355 a Challenge car. Therein lies the issue and is akin to people putting Challenge grills on 360s and other parts associated with the 360CS. A true Challenge car will be recorded at the factory as an F355 Challenge (recorded VIN).

Not wishing to start an argument but that's not what it says in any of the bits I pasted.
You bought a 355 and a challenge kit that was fitted after.

I can't see anything that says they were factory built as a complete unit.

If anyone is really interested in purchasing I am sure Terry Keyes will give you the full low down on the car he is a super guy with a great family business loves all Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

Yes I think it's the same one, Blurb in ad is incorrect, there were 929 produced in total, not RHD.

Regarding the F355 Challenge, this page seems to be from 1996 and well-informed. http://www.motortrend.com/features/archive/112_960...

Onno, that's what I posted yesterday.

As a 355 owner I am not interested in buying but would like to know the set up with the 355 challenge cars, a friend of mine who started the other challenge related thread was asking and I would like to know more myself.

As an aside, what is the set up if you wanted a new 458 challenge car today ? do you go via Ferrari dealer, a race team, or factory ? and is it a fully built unit or a std car with a big box full of race kit bits ?
I think someone here has one or a 430 was it, I doubt knowing Ferrari they have changed the system much

I went to the auction intending to buy this car - it's lovely, though a slightly odd setup of basically a road car with the challenge wheels, brakes, suspension (presumably) and wing. But a totally road interior, no cage, and a little bit tatty inside.

It went for £70k including the buyers premium... Yowsers!! There we a couple of persistent bidders, but either they knew something we don't or they were drunk. It wasn't _that_ nice given you can get one for 40k or so - and with 10k could get one into any condition you liked. This was alos of somewhat unknown provenance, and who knows what problems might be hiding, so to pay that kind of a premium seems crazy.

Still, I'm now hooked on the idea of one. To the classifieds!

In answer to the 458 Challenge question, I've got one - you buy it through a road dealer, it comes as a race car though. It's road box and engine, but stripped, with different ABS/traction, different dash and electronics (and a £7k box to talk to said electronics is required), wheels (£8k + vat a set), some other bits and bobs. A passenger seat is an 8k option! I bought mine from a chap in Holland who had done one race in the Ferrari Challenge and decided it was too expensive. We've run mine in Britcar this year, and will be selling it for a GT3 at the end of the year - they're a whole different thing, built by Kessel in Switzerland rather than Ferrari, with more carbon, 'proper' ABS and traction, sequential box instead of the DSG, a body kit, aero kit, much wider wheels and so on. And a mighty price tag to go with smile

Thanks for posting ..

That 355 has to be something special no ? 70k ? as you said and know several in the classifieds for almost half that.
Is it possible that the car was indeed built by the factory ?

£70k?! Blimey Charlie!

I agree, the bidders must know something about the provenance that wasn't advertised. I'm intrigued to know who bought it now. Hopefully it'll turn up at an event somewhere.

Hmmmm ..... according to the auction results on their website, price for the 355 is 'TBA'.

The 430 made something in the mid £70Ks and the 360 mid £30Ks.

Less than 25% of the race cars in the sale sold!!!!!

This page says the F355 was unsold, so presumably the high bidder sobered up a bit and thought £70k was a bit much.

So with a pre-sale estimate of £28k-£32k, it appears not even to have made its reserve;
which should NOT be above the lower estimate figure.

So what's all that about then?? Your car, have one for sale, or were you drunk and not 'them'?

That is a lot of money - I blame Tom Hartley for pushing 355 prices up.
