As prices of both have now dipped below the £100k mark, just wondering if anyone has owned both and what you would say the differences are between the two?\
Both in terms of the driving experience and ownership proposition?

This debate is like choosing which kardashian you'd like to spend the night with......!
I havent owned either but I can imagine the DBS to be a more comfortable drive with more interior space and long distance driving. 599 is much raw, little less comfortable, less boot space but probably more exciting (just by a bit!) overall.

599, proper supercar.
Think after driving both you'd find the DBS feels slow (but very nice to sit in).

Everything is relative, but I would never describe a 599 as raw. It is a very fast, sporty, reasonably luxurious, GT.
I mean, the 458 is rawer than the 599 but that is a GT to me as well. Raw is a term that fits F40, CS, Scud, 365BB etc.
Listen, nobody here can tell you what it feels like to drive. You need to buy the car that speaks to you. A DBS or a 599 is not even remotely the same car in my eyes. Try both, and choose what fits you. For me it would be the Ferrari without a shadow of a doubt, but the DBS is a great car and others make different choices. You need to be excited about your P&J and that means looks, sound, feel, power and handling (and maybe prestige, for some) need to have the right blend. When you have driven both, you'll know which one fits your equation the best.
Have fun in the decision-making process!

One minute you're cruising around with 100 year olds.. now you've lit a candle for the rancid Kardashians? What's going on with you man?

I run both the DBS and 599. The DBS to me is more brutal.. the 599 more elegant in a way but a shade quicker than the Aston. My preference is the DBS. If its attention you seek the Aston is way ahead of the 599 and with the Bond connection certainly cooler and hugely stylish. Few members of the public realise the 599 is a Ferrari in fact, whereas the DBS doesn't suffer an identity crisis. The 599 is rapid but not in a head jerking sort of way. The bonnet of the ferrari is imposing and the interior has an attention to detail the DBS lacks. The Astons sat nav is dreadful I have to say. Both 6th Gears DBS and 599 have over 50k of hard miles on them. The Aston had been generally fault free apart from odd electrical gremlins the 599 has suffered repeated problems with the paddleshift electrics not selecting gears etc. Overall though there's not much in it but for me the DBS is simply a weapon.

Seems the DBS often gets overlooked when raging bull and prancing horse are on the wish list. Overlook it at your peril , oozes quality , goes like stink , the public seem to love it (which is nice) and you can go down the supermarket in it if you want. I looked around like you are doing and i went DBS and have absolutely no regrets. A real cracker in my opinion.

Very interesting reviews, surprising to me in some ways (as a long standing Ferrari owner but have not driven either car the OP is looking for). Great to hear about the reliability of the DBS. I have had very few gremlins on my modern Ferraris, but I have heard quite a lot of complaints from other owners. It seems to me you are either lucky or you are not with the latest batch of Ferraris. One thing I have heard from my specialist is that the F1 gearboxes are a real issue in the 599. Because an automated gearbox does not care whether the synchros are completely lined up (it just forces the gear in), it causes damage to the teeth of the gears. It seems quite a large percentage of 599's need a gearbox rebuild after only 30k miles or so. A costly job, so you need to be aware of it. Onno

599 all day long differant league in all departments and makes the DBS feel slow.. To the untrained eye the DBS looks like a DB9 where the 599 is just pure supercar and GT in one with the performance and ferrari magic the Aston just can't rival! Either way you will not be dissapointed but you'll see what I'm talking about once you drive back to back.

Either way you will not be dissapointed but you'll see what I'm talking about once you drive back to back. I'd disagree with everything apart from the 599 feeling a little bit faster. Hardly makes the DBS feel slow from my experience of the 599 (as a passenger, haven't driven one). Plus in the real world, on the road, the Aston would not struggle to keep up. The Aston's interior is so much of a nicer place to sit, yes the sat-nav is crap but who cares? The sound is far better too (imo), and not to mention the Aston is a truly stunning design, whereas (again imo) the 599 is starting to look a bit dated. I disagree about the 'ferrari magic' too, Aston's just have something special about them, the smell of the leather when you open the door, the noise, the looks... Hard to explain, but I've never felt it with the Ferrari's I've driven.

Unfair comparison really the 599 has at least 110bhp more than the Aston and the evidance is clear when you drive! In terms of reliability its pot luck as neither manufacturer is that good in that department! To drive the 599 wins with superior handling and speed and sense of occasion. If your after something really special then I would go for the 599 ticks more of the boxes you need to be ticked? If your more concerned about the bond thing then go for the Aston.

I've not had a 599 but currently run an 09 DBS coupe, manual and must say its an amazing car. I wanted a 599 but aft driving a DBS had one of them instead. You've got to find the right car though as there is some by good and some very bad as with all. I'm only looking to change aft 12 months cause I fancy a California and it will be better for the everyday use the wife does in it. The DBS is a very torque car and can be a handful in anything other than dry conditions but then so can the 599. I have had no problems other than my paranoia and have thouroly enjoyed it and it looks much better than a 599 I hate to admit! If you fancy a mint 09 drop me a line. Good luck with either I'm sure you'll love it!

My DBS goes tomorrow morning. Very mixed feelings about it because it is such a great car - smooth, rapid, beautiful, ultra comfortable and very classy. But.....every time I go to the garage I choose the 430 and I can't exactly say why.
The 430 and DBS are closer than I would have imagined - both make excellent GTs albeit with the Ferrari having a more sporting edge and an F plan layout.
So, the DBS is making way for a CS, which I had imagined would have been a closer experience to the 430 but isn't. I love the rawness of it and will hopefully have a great time finding out more!

What a choice to make! I have to say the idea of having an unreliable P+J would probably push me in the direction of the DBS. Love the 599 though.
