if you go from glasgow north towards stirling and head to Callander (only 30 mins out of Glasgow) the roads are amazing and great scenery... its worth the drive up there. Basically the south of England doesnt have any good roads and the ones that are average are too busy. Believe me Ive been down in London for 12 years looking for good roads here, the only solutions are north wales, Central and highlands Scotland or going abroad to Italy, Austria and Switzerland etc.
fully agree, the only nice roads I found around london are horsham-winchester and around buntingford, but they are nothing compared to wales or continental europe...

Also watch as you come into Scotland off the M6 as the Scottish police sit inside the english border and then come chasing after you in Scotland!

Can recommend Chris at TSVC for any car transport. Found him to be very competitive and really took care of my Ultima.

Some example of cars delivered here

Dave.

If you do get tired of the motorways you can always hop off south kendal and travel up a6 up tp carlisle (40ish mile) of some quite good fast flowing roads just on edge of lakes and never too far from m6.

Just drive it, doesn't need to be all boring motorways. Will help if the weathers good, I just flew down to Gatwick and drove back in the 3200, 570 miles, no problems.

Interesting question actually as my first response was to 'man up' and drive but truth be told London to at the very least Stirling (area) will be very dull indeed and unless you have 'all rounder' its going to be a journey to avoid and even worse the trip home would be a real dampner on a holiday too.

Accepting that id plan to take a quick flight from LDN up to an airport where you can pick up your car (thats already there). Most of the good roads are north of Stirling so that means you fly to Glasgow or Edinburgh.

I have used a company based in Kilmarnock called 5-Star to deliver my 997 C2S to London and collect my Gallardo from Preston and their base is not too far from Glasgow airport. Maybe you could arrange something with them. The whole cost was about £500 a couple of years ago.

Carlo McCrindle at Top Gear cars (lambo specialist near Edinburgh) moves cars around in a specialist trailer and finds himself down south a lot due to the marque so maybe drop him a line as he could perhaps offer a service and secure storage. Try not to buy a lambo from him but it will be difficult to resist.

Make sure to consider my lovely holiday cottage while you are in Scotland with secure and private parking of course.

The A7 is even better. 100+ miles of fast cornery roads and NOT a single speed Camera on it. Get off at Carlisle and it will take you all the way to Edinburgh. The Galashiels to Edinburgh is my favourite bit.

Check with getcarter, Steve has lots of tips for Scottish roads, and some stunning pictures as well.
I recently did Scarborough to Ullapool, then further up the following day.The drive home took in Applecross pass.Total in 3 days 1327 mls..............in a diesel :-(, but the roads North of Glasgow are fabulous as everybody seems to agree.
Good call on the A68. It's my choice southbound.
Heading North, I usually do the A66,M6,M74 then from Glasgow head up towards the trossachs,Loch Lomond etc, then the A81 to Fort William.Scenery to die for, the roads are as good.
Enjoy your trip ( if I haven't missed it already )
