Ford GT for me. Having owned three I love them. Last one was a 250mile heritage, sold it because I felt I couldn't use it with those sort of miles. In contrast my first one was the ex P1 car club car with 50k miles when It was possibly a couple of years old, it's still felt and drive well.

Friend of mine would sell his Carrera GT & Ford GT as a pair if that was any use. Both UK cars (both my ex cars) silver / blk and black with silver stripe.

The SLR running costs for routine servicing aren't too bad but the cost of parts is obscene. How does 10k for the carbon radio cover grab you? Not bad enough? How about 7k for a door rubber?!?

I’ll pitch in with the suggestion of an SLS and not an SLR – the SLS is a great GT car and has a wonderful character and drama to it (the doors help). I’ve done 2,500 miles in mine in just over 2 months and it just gets better and better. The car has real presence – it’s a little underrated in my opinion!
It’s quick enough (0-60 in 3.7 secs and 197mph) and it makes a fantastic noise that gets better as the miles go on…

There are some great deals to be done on them as well; find something in stock (all of which seem to be highly spec’d – carbon interior and B&O sound package etc) and you can negotiate hard. Perhaps not a car to enjoy and sell after 12 months, but longer term ownership prospects take the sting out of early depreciation and I secured a 23% discount on the list price by haggling.

I’ve never owned a Ford GT, but have had a good look around a couple and they do look great.

Had an SLR for a bit more then 1yr, sold it not long ago. Have two very good friends with a FGT (one of them is actually selling his white/blue, mint example). The FGT is a better car to drive, I personally prefer the look of the SLR and the sense of uniqueness it cause in you every time you use it. I ended up using the SLR as a daily driver, commuting every morning to my office in the City and it was amazingly practical. I went to the Nurburgring as well and I understood the limits of the car...it is a very fast car but you really need to have balls of steel to drive it fast, you feel immediately it's an "old" car in terms of driveability and feelings on the road. I personally had issues in going above 180mph as I didn't felt safe at all, very strange feeling, first time it happened to me on a car. I'm sure I'm going to buy another one sooner or later, but it is going to be Roadster and possibly in 722S format. Now that I have a clue of what the car is capable and incapable to do, I rather have one without the roof and will enjoy some European trip in it. Servicing is quite expensive but never paid more the 5k to be honest, and last service I did was considered a "big one".

I now have an SLS as a daily and I absolutely love it, fast, handle amazingly well, very firm and stable on the road and very good on the Nordschleife too (got there 10 hrs after I took delivery of the car)! Noise it's unbelievable, gearbox still not perfect but a good step above any other Merc I drove and I'm in love with these Gullwing doors...

Coming back to the FGT as I said before, it's a much better car to drive, you don't have traction control so you should know what you are doing especially on the wet. At the moment I see prices of the FGT a good 30k less then the SLR which is not bad for what you get in return. Price wise I think they will not go much lower, with more upside for the FGT in terms of future appreciation.

Either way I'm sure you would be pleased and very happy with your choice!

Ford GT for me every-time. I doubt the prices are going to get any lower than they are today and to me they tick prety much every box, rare, stupid doors, difficult to park, a proper drama car, that would make you smile every-time you looked at it.

I'd agree with an SLS if you're going to use it daily, but as just a weekend toy I don't think it's exciting enough. Can't comment on the SLR as I've never driven one, but sitting in it, does remind me of and SL.

As long as you kept it serviced with them they were very good on 'good will'

If I had that much cash sitting about there is a boat I'd rather own ;-)

I stumbled across an advert for a CGT you're selling, I actually went CGT to SLR (the CGT wouldn't go into my u/g car park) and whilst the SLR was miles more usable , I do miss the CGT a lot more than the SLR. Would rather have a CGT + daily snotter than a SLR (722)

Absolutely agree. CGT all day long, especially if nowadays compared to a very similarly priced SLR 722S.

The problem is that there are so many good cars around that one "should" own that you end up selling things you really shouldn't...thanks God every modern car is replaceable and we would be able to buy these back anytime.

Had the chance to see a GT up close and personal and it doesn't disappoint. The interior while not my favourite is very retro and I think ford did a good enough job. The badge snobbery isn't even an issue as I think the majority respect the GT40 and the GT in turn.
Visually I think the SLR is nice but the beauty is in that elongated bonnet and it's not great from every angle thanks to the cut off boot. I would imagine it's some what of an accomplished but soul-less car.
GT would be the choice for me but sophistication would lie with the Merc.

difficult choice, 722 over a GT but GT over a regular SLR, both have lots of road presence though and i'll never forget being 185mph in the SLR!

Don't exaggerate. Everyone knows that the 456 bonnet is only £10k to replace.

I passed up an FGT about 3 years ago for US$125K. At the time I thought it was a little overpriced. It was for sale in Minneapolis through a friend of a friend. I could have stored it there no issues as well.
It was a mistake passing it up as I see they're now asking 180-200K and trading around 20K less then that.

Took it for a drive but at the time I had an Ultima GTR so by comparison it felt a little slow and ponderous.

Still may get one but I'd need to find a location in UK for long term storage.
