I passed up an FGT about 3 years ago for US$125K. At the time I thought it was a little overpriced. It was for sale in Minneapolis through a friend of a friend. I could have stored it there no issues as well.
It was a mistake passing it up as I see they're now asking 180-200K and trading around 20K less then that.

Took it for a drive but at the time I had an Ultima GTR so by comparison it felt a little slow and ponderous.

Still may get one but I'd need to find a location in UK for long term storage.
Import from US to UK would set you back 20% VAT + 8% Import duty... cheaper to buy now in the UK actually

Plus 7k to get it shipped reliably. And you would have to wait a couple of months as the shipping business is rather clogged up (well it was when I did it in 2010).

Nowhere near 7k to get it shipped - speak to Cars Europe. I think my 288 cost 3k or so

also would need a couple of Ks to change light for IVA purposes. Upside is that you can register as a PLG and pay 205 tax instead of 400+... not that it makes a huge difference in a 100k+ car

7k? I imported a Mercedes last year for around £1300 containerised, roll on/off was under a grand but I wouldn't do it the cheap way again. SVA isn't a big problem but my Merc needed new xenons which cost a grand, not sure how you get the lights sorted on a GT, though there are plenty of specialists around. To be honest I'm looking at them in Europe cheaper and easier to get home currently.

I can't comment on what the SLR is like, as I have never driven one. I never could come to terms with how they look, the long bonnet is striking, but overall I think they are quite uninspiring and awkward.
I bought a GT about three years ago, and It is everything I had hoped for and more. I did have my car uprated by Mountune, and also installed a custom exhaust system from Stainless Works in Ohio, it sounds incredible. Be prepared for lots of attention. Fantastic modern version of an iconic car, that I think will become more valuable in the future.

I love Pistoheads for this very reason, the debunking of Internet 'facts'.
