Very kind of you to say. It's not just my knowledge though, but really a collective of a lot of people's hard work and passion. I'm just the one who makes the most noise. wink I would love to help in any way that I can. I do need a ride in the car when all is said and done though - that's my standard commission. biggrin

EDIT: Actually in this case I would like to alter my commission request. My man hurstg01 really needs a ride in a McLaren F1. He's not had the good fortune to do so yet and really very much deserves the experience. smile
wavey Very kind of you to add that little bit [what are you after?.... biggrin ] As long as it won't cost me more than the usual $2.50 wink

What is done with the parts that are removed from cars if upgrades are taken place? Factory store them for future or are they given back to the owner of the car? Can't imagine them being "binned", I'd love to have a road spec F1 and a GTR, but would want the road one to be as it was intended and bring back to how it left the factory.
I am sure they aren't binned. I've never really asked what they do with things like the front end on a standard F1 when they fit a High Downforce Kit to it. Hard to stick that in a box and keep it on the shelf somewhere but maybe that is what's done in some cases? It is an interesting question.

In the car world typically they say 'originality is key' but the trends we see with the F1 contradict that. Some F1s are refitted and come out on the other end looking nothing like they did before - there's really no going back in most cases, but one car did have the downforce kit removed in 2009 and returned to stock body form. Would be interesting to know the particulars but the work was carried out by Lanzante Motorsport instead of McLaren. When it comes to McLaren, I know they replace a lot of wear items on a rigorous schedule so the car is always in top condition and I'd imagine there's some lucky scrap collector who ends up with them. They're hardly the cool identifiable bits that you'd want to stick in a glass case under lights.
I heard that Mclaren have storage boxes that all these parts get placed in to so in the event the cars get sold the new owners have the benefit of either the spares with the car, or if the new owner wants to have their car changed then Mclaren can charge their prices to get them out of the storage boxes again wink

Another thing I'd do is offer the Sultan of Brunei an amount of money just to walk around his garage, and invite a few people along to document the journey.
Just need to win the £133million now and get the ball rolling!
I don't know that money would get you in the door. It's an odd place by most accounts and in the past few years very few people seem to have gotten anywhere near the cars. Quite a shame as before I heard the real stories I used to believe it was the coolest place on earth. frown

Not after a thing - I really mean that. smile

The fact that most have two passenger seats should increase your chances. I mean how many McLaren F1 owners have more than one friend anyway? biglaugh

Very true actually, should have mentioned that in my inital post about the money to the Sultan to see his garage, my dad owns a private plate that is S111 TAN and with some not-PH approved spacing and dots could spell Sultan (no we have it displayed as it should be) and I'd use that as a bargaining tool lol, or just get very friendly with the staff at Brunei embassay.

If I was to win that kind of money, I'd do one better and get yourself and hurstg01 behind the wheel of a car on a track somewhere and enjoy it properly!! Have enough left over to replace the clutchs and tires that we'd no doubt go through biggrin

Now to buy more tickets and make sure I win to make it reality, otherwise i've got another 25 years of hard work to do!

I just wanted to post a very recent experience which I think goes to show this dealer in a different light to that, that has been portrayed here. Firstly I am not saying anything against those experience's as I have no knowledge there for can not comment ...only on my personal experience.

I purchased a LP640 Roadster six months ago from Tom Hartley's and dealt with Tom Jnr & Gary, the transaction was very smooth and they took my old Murci in part exchange.

I have had a few issues with the car since I purchased it, just small silly minor things to bring the car to 100%, which was all dealt with at Lamborghini Sevenoaks (who have been very good) via the Warranty-Wise Policy supplied by TomHartley.

I recently have had a problem with the starter motor working intermittently, fortunately just days before the warranty was to expire.

Rather than a big long story to say the the starter motor was knackered and it's an engine out jobby, the bill is coming in above £4,000.00 the Warranty company was kicking up a little fuss with the Dealer.....as it's a very intermittent problem. Gary at TomHartley stepped up and has be liaising with Andrew Whittaker the top man at Warranty Wise and has been instrumental in getting this work approved.

This is a short version but to say the amount of effort over the past two weeks to get this approved so I can get my car back has been excellent and I would like to say a BIG thanks to Tom Hartley's and especially Gary for sorting this out. I personally feel that if it was not for their reputation and history with Warranty-Wise I would not have had the car repaired.

Tom Hartley's ~ Highly recommend, good car, great service, and excellent after-sales IF you get a problem.

Lamborghini Sevenoaks ~ Very helpful and liaised very well with the Warranty company in the past and the work is very good.

Warranty-Wise ~ You can see why these guys are the BEST warranty company out there, very fair and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Obviously with all forums there will be people who have had different experiences, but you only normally here the bad, and as this is my personal experience (straight from the horses mouth) and is current.

Hopefully my car will be back soon smile

I find these kind of posts odd when you hear of Supercar buyers who have paid £100k+ for Cars telling us how good the dealer was about getting things fixed that were WRONG with the car????

Surely they should have prepped and maybe given a service/health check before they sold the car in the first place?

Wishing you will have your £100k+ 6 month old car back SOON is also slightly odd. I wont even ask how many miles you have done in the car since buying it from the dealer.

So how exactly would you check for an intermittent starter motor problem, especially if it did not happen when they had the car? I am afraid "crystal ball diagnosis" is not available yet.

Cars are complex machines and somethings stop working or wear out, that is a given. In these instances it is not necessarily the problem, but how it is dealt with that counts.

I have had the car for nearly six months and in month six the starter motor started to click (solenoid).... it was something that just came on. The dealer would not have know about the fault as it wasn't there when I purchased it and it took 5 months for for the car develop the fault.
