SG54 has been stacked!!
Discussion
This months EVO has just dropped onto the door step and as usual I flick to the back pages to get a quick update on the Fast Fleet. So you can imagine the shock when I saw Simon's silly high mileage (Over a quarter of a million miles and counting) Murceilago has been crashed having only very recently been through a major engine rebuild and paint job. Simon my sympathies go out to you, they really do, it must have been heart breaking.
One thing I was not clear about was who was actually driving at the time of the crash, was it your instructor or a customer?

I thought the pic didn't look too bad until I read the write up. Commiserations Simon.
This any good for parts;

Bent roof and chassis, would normally be a right off but he says he is going to rebuild it. Good on that man
Quick question for Simon here and this is coming from a point of complete ignorance, are your cars insured whilst they are on track, sorry if that sounds like a daft question?

Lots of members of the public driving cars that aren't their's around a track. You'd be very stupid not to have insurance! Quick question for Simon here and this is coming from a point of complete ignorance, are your cars insured whilst they are on track, sorry if that sounds like a daft question?
Well thanks for the kind comments..
It is a shame but it will get fixed. It's in Chartwells, Derby currently having the chassis straightened which should pull the roof straight. Amazing place that, like a huge hospital operating theatre full of exotica being fixed, everyone in white overalls.
It was a customer driving with an instructor but he wasnt even being silly, it was just a combination of circumstances like a greasy track, a horrid damp day and a sh*t load of bad luck.
The insurance is an irrelevance since any claim would have premiums and excess' going through the roof - just no point even considering it. Fortunately we've a bodyshop with ovens etc so the biggest cost will be parts.
Quite tempted to buy the aftermarket bits to make it look like an LP670SV but then again it would'nt be original. Should be done in a couple of months whatever

Simon, Had the pleasure of driving SG54 on a driving experience so sorry to hear the news but good on you for rebuilding it.However, your last comment had me cringe.....don't turn into Gulzar and add on loads of fibreglass and crystals..
Good luck with the 'project'.
Kev
I was gob smacked when I saw the photo at the front of the magazine when l got home tonight...sod the other articles l thought. I admire Simons strong spirit as the car is an icon & it would be sad to see it appear on ebay with quotes like "it will easily polish out"....it is such a pity it happened so soon after it had a full fettle. Will you be changing its fleet name from 'the deer hunter' to the 'woodsman' or 'the big chopper'? Good luck

This suprises me, when me Gallardo was bent it went to Chartwells and the damage was nothing like as bad, purely cosmetic and suspension, and the estimate was £62k.The insurance is an irrelevance since any claim would have premiums and excess' going through the roof - just no point even considering it.
This must be of that sort of order or more, in which case it's surely got to be worth a claim?
If not, then why nor raise your excess and save some premium?
Just my thoughts.

Chartwells are only straightening the chassis. After that it'll come back to our workshops where our bodyshop chaps will rebuild the front end and paint it. Doing it that way saves a ton of money. This must be of that sort of order or more, in which case it's surely got to be worth a claim?
