on this clocking thing..... once upon a time, supercars were the odd weekend toys as you got tired pushing down the clutch, the air con was ste so you overheated, they hated being driven slowly so they weren't.....weren't just used and driven around 'cos you could..... bar the odd one or two.....

now, the modern supercar has a super slick double clutch gear box which makes every weekend, weather permitting, a chance to get out even if it is to sit in traffic in town somewhere driving from a to b to do a mundane chore..... why shouldn't these everyday useable supercars with smooth clutches etc gain a few miles....

So all the 458's in the uk have been clocked at least once. It's easy enough to check the mileage on these cars with all the on board computers . While I know it goes on sometimes you have to take what people say with a pinch of salt.
Unfortunately ALL computers are programmable.

Yea I'm sure they are but the statement that every 458 has been clocked is bit over the top. It would be interesting to know if it is that easy from a professional!.

Unless dealers turn a blind eye to clocking, how many 458's have been back to the dealers for warranty work, checkup, service etc, where the dealers will record the date and mileage of that visit.

You're clocker ain't going to be able to change the dealers main database, so discrepancies would be easy to spot ?

Yes agreed, that general condition clutch and brake wear should give general indication of mileage.
I was suprised at what rate carbon discs wore out!. Most of the scuds I looked at at 14k or so miles were showing 20% ish wear, surprisingly discs were generally about the same. So again a good indication of mileage.
Point is you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work it out.

Do most insurers have a mileage limit when it comes to supercars? I always thought that was the reason so many of these cars are underused?

Most owners are happy with the discounts given for named mileages but you can still have unlimited mileage policies.

They give option for limited mileage.
I think these cars are generally underused because they are status symbols and often nothing more. Pushed out the garage on a sunny Sunday washed and put back in. Some of us like to drive them but a lot don't.

But most wont even look.

We are anorak PH'ers so it would be hard to get one past us but most people havent got a clue if their car has been painted, pranged, tracked, thrashed, clocked or not.

Totally different kettle of fish - The K and M will probably give you trouble (at least that's my perception), and are defo cars you'd only drive occasionally. The 458 you can commute to work in if you'd like, and will probably get much more use out of of. Equally, there's a big enough market out there for Ferrari's that you know what you're getting in to and selling is easy enough, albeit at a decent loss.

I'd guess those are the reasons - I'd never get a K or an M like you've popped up unless I had a number of other cars (i.e. 3 other cars+, wouldn't get them as a 2nd car), and those were really my toys for maybe 1000 miles per year on special occasions. Guess that's a limited market.
I'd have thought the Mosler would be the easiest of the three to look after. LS engine and not too many fussy things to go wrong, no?
The Mosler is bullet proof and most economical supercar I have owned to run. If you wanted to, no reason you could not use it as an everyday car.
