10 out of 10.

Now that's a Ferrari.
This was my car, which I sold in 2006, for a sum which bears no resemblance whatsoever to the price it has just achieved. This is a truly great example, and the new owner is in for a treat.

Agreed it's a great car. Fancy one myself.

As for it being the predecessor to the 288GTO - not even close. They are not in the same league and nor do they donate any DNA to the GTO (for that, you need to look to the humble 308).
Not in a DNA sense. DNA wise the F40 doesn't really have anything in common with the F50 really?

The 512 BB was the top of the range Ferrari in its day, as was the 288, F40, F40, Enzo and LaFerrari. The 512 BB car was also used for homologation purposes too with the 512 BB LM.

So would have to say its place in the range is very similar to that of the 288 GTO?

Well you fkers.

I looked at these buggers back in '04/05 and what did I get? Oooo you dont want one, CoG way too high, crap on track, wallows and rolls all over the place, etc, etc...

And I listened to you. They were £40k.

Now its all Wonderful! Brilliant! A Real Ferrari! And they are £100k and heading upwards.

You bds smile What golden rule did I learn from this? NEVER listen to ph!

104 months of membership and you just learned that? For shame wink

I suspect everyone will be buying F348s in a few years, saying how amazing they are!

While it was the top of the range at the time, it occupied the same place in the range as the Daytona and 365 BB before it, and the Testarossa, 550, 575 and 599 since. The 288 GTO was a limited edition of a minimum 200 to homologate itself for Group B competition. The 288 GTO was a contemporary of the Testarossa and definitely a step above in the range then, more so now.

It's true that the 512 BB LM was loosely based on the road car and went racing at Le Mans, but the 512 BB road car was in no way a homologation special in the way of the GTO. The 512 BB is to the 288 GTO what the 575 is to the Enzo. It's a very nice car in its own right, but not even close to the hypercar lineage that started with the GTO.
