This situation might be like the situation on the recent TV program where the guy produced a valid set of documents but as the policeman couldnt verify by calling the company in the UAE the guys car was impounded as if he was guilty. Poor poor show if the situation is the same.

Yawn.. same story.

Blah blah blah, fed up with folk defending people who break the law just because of their race. They are in our country and have to abide by rules. If they don't I am happy for them to be towed like any of us would. I think its amazing any of them still have cars in the UK given the way they drive.

I am living in a Saudi Arabia and expect to be treated fairly and evenly while I am here and I respect their laws and rules here.

Well said. Race has nothing to do with adherence to the law. With regard to this guy presenting 'foreign papers' as suggested by previous posters, I think it is pretty unreasonable for coppers to know what is legit and what isn't from all the options there must be. Don't know about Saudi, but here in Singapore, I was able to use my UK license to drive here but had to take a theory test and get 45/50 multiple choice question right to pass or retake the theory AND a practical test. You then get issued with a photo-ID driving license. The driving license is synchronised to my residency ID so both expire on the same date which makes it black and white were I stopped by the law. Can't they have something similar in the UK or will the tree hugging civil liberty mob be outraged ?

Yes they are but it's just a silly PR stunt with a guaranteed DM story playing to the inherant racism of it's readership.

With the apparent fact that a 1/3 or vehicles on the road don't have insurance/tax/licence why not stop everyone they see? The law of averages dicates that would be a great earner.
I'm sure if you were hit by an uninsured, plateless car you'd be perfectly happy if you found out the police had turned a blind eye to it. They check cars around my way, only the other day on my way to work there was a van parked at the side of the road with a camera, checking passing cars for a tax disc and (presumably) their plates against the MID.

Cool Lambo though.
Yeah that was my thinking, no license, no insurance.. If he ran into you and wrote off your p&j I'm sure you'd be annoyed if the police turned a blind eye

They can drive on their licence according to DVLA for 12 months from the date they entered the UK. But traffic officers also know what set of documents need to be produced to guarantee the lambo is legal. I guess if is all in arabic it makes it harder. Easy when is written in english since is quite universal language, so not surprised it was taken away.
These kids should know by now what is needed in the UK but in a way is like all the threads where people complain that the French took their car.

Sorry if this is a re-post

Amazing, why the heck are there so many Police involved? The Plod on here tell us those nasty Conservatives have slashed numbers and there aren't enough to do the job anymore.

Because people are being abused and murdered all over the country. Because organised (and disorganised!) criminals walk free and ruin honest lives everyday.

But the MET towed a Lambo owned by someone who'll spend more money here in a week than the Plods will in their whole lives. HUZZAH! What a victory! I'll sleep better at night knowing that that naughty Lambo is impounded. rolleyes
Why should anyone think they are above the law on the basis of how much they spend. If you want to drive on UK roads you need a license - period. It's numpties like this they push up insurance policies for the law abiding majority. Personally, I'd deport him and push this aberration off Beachy Head !!
First point about money is that we need these guys coming to our country as the £££'s they spend provide a valuable boost to our ailing economy. The more they are harassed and harangued over trivial matters the less likely they are to come to the UK.

The second point is that these families have whole teams of people dedicated to managing their personal affairs, so the thought that they wouldn't have all the relevant documents present and correct is laughable.

Surely the Al Thanni family are self insured anyway ?

It's not like they haven't got the dough to be.

Being mindful how much the Al-Thani family have spent in the UK over the last 5 years (including very notable businesses) it's unlikely they'll throw their toys out of the pram.

Do you know any of the legion of people who deal with their day to day affairs?

I took the photos shown here. As far as i'm aware the issue was he didn't have any of the documentation that is legally needed to be held in the car if it is not Uk registered as it had been left behind somewhere. Therefore there was no way of proving he had a license or insurance so was treated as if he didn't have either of those things. Regarding the amount of police there, they were running a police check point, so pulling other people over and doing checks.

They'd have to be spending gazillions to boost our ailing economy and that which they do is probably lining the pockets of non-UK businesses - hotels / luxury brand shopping etc etc.

The reports said that the 'boy racer' (red top name for anyone under 30 with money and a flash car) could not prove he had a driving licence, the relevant insurance and the car was missing the front number plate. This assumes then that the "whole teams of people dedicated to managing their personal affairs" are at best fawning sycophants or worse complicit lawbreakers.

I've had a few drinks with Sheikh Nasser and met him and some of his team at some car events out here, he's a nice chap, he has a personal assistant who deals with everything from lighting his cigarettes to this sort of thing. I wouldn't worry about him losing the aventador, the collection of cars he has makes it actually this one of the cheaper cars he owns.

..that is one pic of many from his personal instagram feed
He currently also has a new range rover in london on some mahoosive alloys so don't go expecting him to be catching the bus any time soon.

I can't comment on his documents being in place as I don't know if they were, but if I were a betting man, my money would be on the car being fully insured.
