Had a proper long test drive in a Scuderia yesterday and now appreciate how different these cars are up and above my old regular F430 spider.
Epic car and well worth the premium if you are seriously into your driving. The superfast 2 F1 gearbox is amazing to the extent I think its better ( more suitable to scud) than the latest DSG boxes which are too smooth and give little sensation of changing gear. The sound at 6,000 + RPM is pure F1

The car has a great balance between the rawness of a CS and the daily driveability of a 458. Reckon the car is a Concorde moment, the pinnacle of motoring navarna

Now can I live with a grey one or do I hold out praying for a Rosso Scuderia one to come up in the next couple of months

I bought a Scud back in April this year. It is an event to drive and the noise over 6k rpm is laugh out loud fun as you say. I'm not sure I see it as a daily driver as it's quite wide and I also think twice about where I leave it; the noise might get a bit wearing also. I rather like the darker colours vs the reds - mine's black.

Out of interest, I owned a 993 RS for many years. A different proposition in my mind as that was properly old school with few electrics, a gearstick etc etc. I loved it's modest scale and hence usability. That being said, I had a stripped out clubsport so the noise/ride/comfort were not conducive to spedning much time in it or taking kids out - that put paid to it for me and hence I chopped it in; I probably sold 1-2 years too soon. Never mind as I still came out on top and I bought for fun not for reward.

Yes Russell

"a moment of sudden and great revelation or realization"

sadly its taken me 3 years to get it and probably cost me an extra £30k. That said all the dealers I have spoken to are convinced they will only continue to go up when they receive the credit they deserve

It was a toss up between a new 458 spider, speciale or the scuderia and the Scuderia ( if I can find the right one ) has come out on top IMHO.
Maybe in 2 or 3 years time I will swap it in for a speciale with cashback lol

Please don't start banging on about how the scud now is the best thing since sliced bread and surely will skyrocket in value.....

I've owned a CS, Scud and 458. I have driven the Speciale. For me the Scud the least interesting. It is way less racey/pointy than the 458 and Speciale and it has a lot less character than the CS.

But this is 2014, everything is going up in value. The Scud should be no different unless the merry-go-round grinds to a halt. But I hardly think at 150k+ (which is what people are asking and more) that its an undiscovered bargain. Like most cars its priced in line with todays market.

It is a good car that is for sure, but I would much rather have a CS or Speciale.

Its not even an Edizione Tecnica with ceramic brakes

Maybe I'm just buying up all the right cars for the future and forcing the prices up

Same here owned all three and in preference the Scud comes last.
That's got be taken in context the Scud is still a great car but if I were spending 150k it'd be on another 458, unless it was purely investment then I'd have one of the others and not drive it.

I think 458's are great cars but its not the best time to buy one right now as there are too many used ones on offer and with silly deals flying around one on new ones and the replacement imminent you stand to lose a fortune over a 2 year tenure.
I'd rather stretch to a new Speciale if that was the case but again in 2 years time that will be a lot cheaper whereas the Scuderia certainly won't be.

Anyway that's my man maths and logic and if I land a limited edition Ferrari that's a great drivers car then any appreciation is a bonus but at least the risk of massive depreciation is reduced. Good hedge bet/investment to see how the market develops over the next couple of years IMHO and the Ferrari dealers I've spoken to who could have quite easily taken a deposit off me for a new 458 spider or Speciale

Like I say, if you want something to lick or just look at get the Scud or CS and become paranoid about mileage, if you want a car to drive get a 458.
There's a 100k gap between a Speciale and a 2010 458, that's a lot of money and while I appreciate the 458's have dropped the depreciation curve is now flattening on the early cars so I see them as a good buy still money to lose but hopefully at a slower rate.

How very odd? I seem to remember you telling us Rybrook would give you back more than you paid in 12 months? Thought it was the pinnacle of Supercars?

I've have my Strad 8 years because, simply, I've found nothing better and never felt the need to flip it. Hope you can one day find/afford something as special.

I have that and another one that's not in the public arena to hopefully see tomorrow before I shoot off on holiday.
If either of them is really good I hope to secure one with a deposit by the end of the day and sort out delivery on my return. No point dilly dallying around with these scarce cars if you can find a good un

At £160k they would be giving me far more than just my money back.
Cashback Sir ?
That will do nicely kerrrrrching

360 or CS even never really appealed to me as I love the F355GTS so much but the 430 Scuderia is certainly growing on me and sits somewhere nicely between the CS and Speciale in terms of rawness, speed and driveability etc...

I don't want to go old school classic and the new modern stuff is becoming too darn good so there is only a small dwindling number of cars that are going to fit the bill for me personally
The PET and Scuderia both do that but in different ways just like the CS does for you

In isolation and to the uneducated from 30 yards I agree but as soon as you saw the inside you would start laughing.

Park a scud side by side to it and the differences would be plainly obvious but a nice attempt if that's your thing ?

With insurance premiums for the young un's I could see some merit in it
