Not sure if this is the right section, but couldn't find an Italian section of the forum to rant in.

Just been to Maserati in Leeds. I've been toying with the idea of a Quattroporte. This is a pretty big deal for me and I really want to savour the experience.

Walked in and asked if they had any used ones in stock. Was directed to a rude salesman that didn't really want to know me at all. Granted, I was vague and am unsure of which car I want exactly.

I got very little out of the guy. I even asked if all interiors were the same because the used example was a GTS. I wondered if it had sportier seats. The rsponse I received was "they're all different". That was it.

I went over to the car and tried to open the door. I received "they're all locked". Again, that was it. I had to then ask permission to have a look inside. With a grunt, the salesman walked off, followed by a beep of central locking some time later.

I'd like to point out that I've also been to the Manchester branch, which has now given up on Maserati. They were great. They had no stock, but took the time to sit with me and run through options and ideas.

Anyone got any ideas of where would be better for me to try?

Leeds was a horrible experience.

It's no excuse I know but I imagine they get fed up of people looking at the cars with no intention of buying.

Although you're a serious buyer it must be hard to hard to distinguish those that are serious and those that are dreamers.

Well that must just be an occupational hazard surely!

Thing is, I have every intention of buying a Quattroporte. I just don't fully understand the exact model/spec line up yet.

If they'd been polite and the one car they had was the right one, I'd have bought it today. Hell, if they'd been polite, I'd have waited for them to get one in.

Do people really go to look at Maseratis like this though? I can't imagine Qs, despite being incredible cars, are the target for tyre kickers and time wasters.

The garage is a Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lotus, Maserati garage all in one. Although each marque has their own section, time wasters must drift from marque to marque all the time.

Cheers Blib. I've loitered on there a bit. Will try to get some more reading in. Just need to get to see some in the flesh and see if they suit me.

I get where you're coming from, but manners are free and the place was empty. As was said above, it must be an occupational hazard (but all dealerships must get that). It could have been a nice easy sale or at least could have convinced me to use them for servicing, etc.

The good thing about this experience is that you didn't buy a car from them. Imagine what they are like once they have your money. That salesman sounds like an ignorant, jumped up prick. Also probably has an ugly wife/boyfriend who refuses to give him sex given his attitude problem.biggrin

With that attitude they are unlikely to ever sell a car.

I can never decide if this is very poor training, or just a case that they hate their job.

Agree with OP, when your excited about buying a car you want a pleasant experience.

I would go to a dealer that wants your business even if it involves some travelling. Buying/browsing for a maserati should be a special experience. If I was working for maserati uk I would be appalled at someone being treated like that

Sounds all very new money to me. Doesn't look like he has the cash etc.

To the OP you are serious about buying a car, approach it any way you want. it is your decision. Advice on these forums about looking the part etc. Sod it, its your money and up to you if you choose to rock up unnanounced or call in advance or whatever.

If the dealer doesn't like walk-ups then he should lock his showroom doors and post a "strictly by appointemnt" sign up.

Its only a car - no matter how expensive it is - and one that will depreciate liek a stone. Who do they think they are.

Get onto the boss of the dealership - let them know how annoyed you are. Drop in the conversation that you'd have bought that day had the guy not been a prick.

It was a long time ago, mid-1980s but my Dad was in the market for a new car. He was having a tyre changed on his car, and there was a problem - the local garage had ordered wrong one or something. They lent him an old Lada to kick around in for a couple of hours. He was considering a new Beemer. That afternoon we arrived at the dealers in the old Lada. The Volvo dealership didn't bat an eyelid. The BMW garage were utter knobs.and mentioned the car.

bkings were issued, apologis offered, a new Volvo was bought that afternoon.

It is a class thing. When I was a grubby little 10 year old, I accidentally found myself in a rather exclusive marquee where there was a member of the Royal family. I was being nosey. I was approached, smiled at, greeted given a glass of coke, thanked for coming and ushered by a nice couple of very posh people to the door. A classy way to get rid of someone.

Simply no excuse for that kind of behaviour, it should be a pleasant experience regardless of the make of car! If this is an authorised Maserati dealership I would be getting touch with Maserati UK, they spend huge amounts of time and money developing a brand and this knob undoes all of that in 5 minutes flat. My advice is to find another dealer, QP's are fabulous cars and well worth a bit of effort to find the right one. By the way, the GT-S is probably the pick of the bunch for me! Best of luck.
