How did the Gumball event in London go today, Sun 9th March? Anyone attend? Great sunny weather for it. Should be something on Youtube later.

Not sure, although I'd love to get an east mids meet arranged. Have there been any around Leicester, Nottm/ B'ham parts?

Was a mental day, surprised the police didn't shut it down. Luckily we arrived before all the madness started and got a decent parking space biggrin

Will monitor to see if there is an Apr or May event ahead of the thing proper.

I literally live down the road from here. About a 5 min walk and I didn't know anything about it till after the event. Annoying!

There is a video on youtube and I have to say I am surprised it did not get shut down by the police. You could hardly drive through the area it was that packed!

I saw a couple of nice cars drive past my house as I was going out but didn't think much of it! But they were obviously heading down there.

Cool vid.

Looks like a good Gumball pre-meet. Great weather, great cars etc. The shiny black G Wagen at 41 seconds kinda stands out.

Is it me or has the Gumball lost credibility / popularity since Nick Morley crashed his Porsche killing someone then legging it?

I think the rot had set in long before that. Original GB's were about having fun going across countries with a party at the end of each day. Some using the chance to vmax their cars on desert highways in Nevada. Some enjoying the scenery. Cars first. Party second. A car event.

But then it started to attract z listers and failed glamour models wanting new husbands. And the entry got ever more extravagant (pre 08 recession) And then you got people who only want supercars to flaunt their wealth. So those people don't realise how crass it is to go through some far away countries in a car worth more than the town they are in! The original idea has been lost along the way.

I often wonder if there's a more underground alternative. No massive stickers and advertising. Just 20-30 people with interesting supercars (not just the latest Lambo or Ferrari) who go from London to Monaco for the F1. Or San Fran to Miami. Going as a group having some fun along the way but far more incognito.

WRT Morley. I gather the accident was exactly that. The Golf pulled out without looking and he hit it at circa 40ish. What happened after is up for debate and I wouldn't like to surmise what caused him to go for the Border.
