I get that but I guess he has owned many Ferrari for many years, at least since he first started earning decent transfer fees.
that's not enough, I know a couple of people who were rejected for elligiblity despite having bought 1 new car per year for 6 years directly from Ferrari.

I guess that message is "you can't buy your way into a LaFerrari"

No, I was told you had to have 3 Ferraris currently.

I pointed out I had a 16m, 599 gto, and 288 gto. All seemed well.

Then they said, er, you have to have bought them new.
I spent the day with the Ferrari F1 team recently in Bahrain, their marketing girl was saying the same. 3 must have been bought brand new from Ferrari and you must have owned 7.
Interesting.

So, if I owned a:

250 GTO (circa, what £25m?)
250GT California (£5m?)
F40 (£1m?)

Then because I hadn't bought those blue-chip Ferraris brand new, I wouldn't be considered for a LaFerrari?

I would imagine the GTO would certain doors but even substituting that for another blue-chip car would surely get you in on it?

It seems to be a very grey area.

Didn't the SSO in EVO say that you had to have bought every new model of Ferrari for the last (x) years?

I've heard from someone in the Top Gear team that Jay Kay has one and if it's delivered in time will be lent to TG for their P1/918/LF shootout. He doesn't really give a f**k what Ferrari say, and bravo to him for that.

Any chance it now won't be delivered on time......

I remember when he got his Enzo and Car Magazine did a piece (probably still have it at home) when they went to Italy to collect the Enzo with him and took the scenic route back to the UK. Seems a long time ago

Ian Poulter the golfer has one coming and over the last year or so he has been buying a lot of Ferraris. He has their names on stamped onto his wedges. 275, FF, 330, Testarossa, 288 GTO and LaFerrari....

Yeah Ian Poulter has a fantastic collection of Ferraris he has bought them as investments he hardly drives them but does use his FF. A few pics of his son Luke and my son Kobe (sat in the Enzo) at his house at Lake Nona Florida, he is outspoken on Twitter some love him some don't but he really is a lovely genuine guy. He has added a few more since these pics were taken.

IIRC, Top Gear's track test of the Enzo was done with Nick Mason's car

I was at the dealership that is delivering his and a couple of others earlier in this week, and they said they were hoping to have cars this year, but it might slip into next...

they must have tightened it up over the enzo then.

i know a chap who walked straight into a new enzo from a uk main dealer having owned no previous new ferraris... he was a very good prospect though and proved this through subsequent purchases from the brand.
According to lovetts in Swindon, the LF slots offered were all, in typical Italian fashion, discretionary. However, owning a halo model car and being part of something along the lines of FXX program or the historical racing car program (I think it's calked 'corsa cliente' or something similar) could put you on that list. I'm guessing, also in typical Italian fashion, they relaxed their rules as the list evolved and if you were considered 'ferrari enough' the qualification system went out the window

His 288 GTO has done 40 miles in the last 14 months according to him.

Shame.

Winds me up. Give me those rarely used Ferrari's, I'll put a vast amount of miles on them.

I know a guy with 7 Ferraris including a 250SWB a 250 California and a 599GTO (bought new) who was turned down. Apparently an FF and an F12 were pretty much a necessity.

Can't see the problem with Ferrari reserving the LF slots for its best customers.

Harsh, but owning a load of secondhand specimens makes you a fan, not a cliente.
