LaFerrari - what is happening?

The fact they have failed US homologation won't help...
Watch it now, Ferrari have been reading this and wanted right of reply to this point in particular! A Ferrari spokesman said:
“The LaFerrari has been homologated for all markets worldwide. This includes the USA, which remains Ferrari’s largest market. Any other indication is false and Ferrari will consider pursuing those who suggest otherwise for misrepresentation of the brand.”
So there you go. Don't shoot the messenger and all that, am just passing this on!Cheers,
Dan
Like Ferrari really give two hoots what we think (unless it's something they wish to deny).
They will sell all of these cars that they wish to buy as they will do with the next car and the car after that. This is the company that offers the FXX programme after all!
We can say what we like about the company, but they are doing very well and much of this success has been down to their carefully measured arrogance.

And perhaps a little to do with the fact they make the best supercars !!!They will sell all of these cars that they wish to buy as they will do with the next car and the car after that. This is the company that offers the FXX programme after all!

Do they?It is entirely possible that they do, but in a the world of diminishing returns, the definition of 'best' falls to the eye of the beholder. Ferrari have done an extremely good job of creating an 'aura' of exclusivity and inventing themselves as a default 'icon'. Ferrari are the maestros of the term 'brand'. What makes this even more impressive is their ability to maintain and even improve upon it despite upping their production massively. Cars such as the laFerrari allow them to do this. They act as a smokescreen whilst the company punts out as many 458's and Californias as the market will bear.
As a company the makes and sells stuff, they take some beating and the LaFerrari will be hotly in demand for years to come even if it is technically outclassed by it's peers.
(A short summary of the above is that Ferrari could build any old crap and people would want to buy it)

thats nothing new though , they have adopted that marketing strategy since the 40's !!It is entirely possible that they do, but in a the world of diminishing returns, the definition of 'best' falls to the eye of the beholder. I have a theory that maybe one of the reasons why the car is going to owners before any journalist drives it, is because compared to a 918 or P1, the LaF isn't very good.
Maybe it's only going to be people who are such fanboys about the brand they will forgive them if it is a bit pants. What's more, the owners selected are going to put only a tiny mileage on the car - which is precisely what Ferrari want because they are worried it will break down all the time and make them look bad.
Just a thought...

There are no press cars, either in country or at the factory. This was mentioned to owners at the launch. Its a limited edition car for owners. Thats also why its not being shown at very many car shows etc as Porsche/McLaren have.
If journo's want to drive a LaF then it will be an owners car - if an owner lets them.
