Guys, thanks a lot for this. Some really helpful stuff here.
Could I be impose a little more? I'm finding it a little difficult to fully get a grasp on all the different variants! Could someone give me an idiots guide focusing on the more "special" versions?
I've never come across the LP 560 -2 version before for example...
Going to see if I can dig up some more videos!

Every single review seems to refer to how "dated" it has/is become/becoming. Is that really a real world issue for people like me? I mean, my Stradale is based on a 1999 car...
Also, a lot of reviews for the specials just end saying "just buy the base model". Certainly. not the case with equivalent Ferraris?
i'm not going to go into every version, as some were cosmetic/spec editions.... but pertinent to your original question....I've never come across the LP 560 -2 version before for example...

sl versions...... gen I, 2007-2008, limited edition, 530hp, retuned suspension, straight through exhaust, lots of weight reduction via use of carbon fibre and plastic glass... 100kg saved.... the first sl, 1330kg dw
gen II, 2010 on, lp570-4 superleggera..... lots of carbon bits but not as extreme in weight saving, a more mainstream model rather then limited edition, sold in lower volumes as cost over 200k new...interstingly not as light as the gen 1... 1340kg dw
there were three versions based on the lp570 with further weight savings... mainly through use of a plastic engine cover, and they all had the large rieter racing rear wing... the blancpain edition, in black, the super trofeo, in rosso mars, and following the 2013 facelift, the squadra corsa, the latter had a tricolore stripe
the edition technica lp570 cars were a spec thing... they had a two colour paint job, CCb's and large spoiler as standard.... believe it or not the large spoiler on the sl was an option!!
2wd drive versions...... no gen I, 2009-2010, the balboni edition, 550-2, first 2wd Gallardo, high spec, manual or egear, stripe theme inside and out.... this was more expensive than the 4wd car, limited edition
2010- they then released the 550-2 coupe and 2013 spyder..... essentially the balboni minus the stripe, mainstream models, cheaper than the 4wd, sold less well in Europe than the us, go figure? some say suspension better sorted cf balboni cars, 1380kg dw ... some cars came in very basic spec, no options!
?2012, the tricolore 550-2... to celebrate something, Italian colours on a thin stripe inside and out
the us market got a 2wd bicolore, which was a 4wd edition for ROW, bizarre
2013 - to celebrate 50th birthday of automobili Lamborghini, the 560-2 anniversary edition.... very limited, lots of weight saving, all white bar four uk cars... 1320kg dw
re the dated bit..... the chassis was an all aluminium spaceframe, ahead of its time when launched, and unchanged throughout..... think what they mean by dated was the electronics were more primitive cf the 12c and 458, and the gearbox was single clutch...... the 2009 introduction of the LP was more than a facelift, yes, the chassis was unchanged, but an all new 5.2l direct injection engine, new gearbox, new clutch design, new suspension, etc etc etc etc..... 'dated' my arse..... if modern is playstation supercars, i'll take mine dated every day of the week thanks.... if this was applied to the 911, then the 911 isn't dated, its ancient!!! became a term all journos said re the Gallardo, almost cos one had to....but do they say it for the 911, no.... again, go figure!
finally, yes, most reviews say get the base car.... as the specials cost a lot more, and the base cars were so good, esp the lp 560, think it lost evo car of the year when launched to the GTR and won car performance car of the year.... so yes, why spend more, a lot more, for a few tweaks..... the point is the base cars are very good!! but if you can spend the extra... then why not...... tbh the alcantara interior is worth the extra itself!

Yup, less produced than the LP570 SL too. A PH favourite as well.Suggest testing all and not relying on what we say - we're all biased but some members make more noise than others on here.
Another vote here for either the original SL, or the Balboni. The 570SL was imo a bodykitted 560 with different wheels and a mild ecu tweak, that still makes it a good car but not that special/different vs a normal 560. The original SL is more special (except the ones with aftermarket wings). The Baboni or LP550-2 is imo a better drivers car though, getting rid of the 4wd means you have lovely uncorrupted steering and a car you can properly play with. But try them all and get what floats your boat

looks are very subjective...... also the front splitter on the gen II sl is not carbon, so looks like a big bit of black plastic that maybe is over emphasised.... colour also very important..... I do think the yellow and orange gen I cars look super, black suits the sl the least imo
What about the unpainted ones?AndrewD said:
