It is all a bit confusing but all 4.7 GranTurismos' have a sports exhaust of some description. On the pre 2013MY Auto the sport valves open at 3000 revs and the car will have two pairs of twin pipes. The MC Shift will have oval pipes and valves that are always open in sport. However, a Sports pack on the Auto added the oval pipes and no rev floor to the valves. Not clear is it?

Any 4.7 from 2013MY onwards has oval pipes FWIW.

Ta - hard to work out what to look at from adverts as the dealers don't specify and when asked they don't know.

Can anyone advise how you know if the car has a sports exhaust - oval
Pipes or something else ?

Even dealers get confused between slush box and automated manual - annoying

4th year service - Christ! Out of context with car new price but I guess low vol
Dealers need £

Really fancy a blue or red auto but need the sound
I ran a fully specced 2010 GTS MC Shift for 3 1/2 years. Absolutely flawless and if I'm honest the noise is essential. Mine had 2 oval exhausts at each end. Also I wouldn't want one if it didn't have the mc shift box. Much of the fun was the automated manual box. I remember test driving a normal auto version. Really is night and day. They also face lifted it about 2011/12. I preferred the front of the older version.

If I was you I'd go and test drive a GTS MC Shift first and then work backwards. That way you can make an informed decision on what you can live without.

The main thing to note is that you will get a switchable loud car as long as it has the 4.7 engine but you will get noise at all revs if it has oval rather than round pipes. I've got the latter and like it but some people might want max noise.

Thanks - I had a 4200 convertible with automated shift and hated it because Im an old fart who should be in a S class so I need the slushbox, it will be a daily driver alongside a Nissan leaf company car for crappy stuff. Will do a drive comparison though JCT 600 seem to be the best dealer to use as they have more than one car!

Can you mod the 4.7 autos so that they give noise in sport mode at all revs? Is it a software thing?

Great Cars. They do run without hassle and can be used for the daily commute. I would suggest a thorough check, maybe with a trusted garage prior to buying. Whilst a lot of issues are not urgent, even low mileage cars need a lot of care and attention. The suspension is worth a check. On average would put aside £2k for a service.

Currently got a Grand cabrio MC Shift and the sound is absolutely stunning!
I am in central London allot for work and drive along side super cars quite often, from 458's to Lambo's and very often drivers will comment on a greater noise from the Grand Cabrio compared to there own.
Also had no issues since my purchase.

DS Its currently on Autotrader under the below link if your interested:

With regards to one of the comments above just ask McGrath Maserati before buying. You don't need to have the roof down to hear the noise, it is there in a Masser and part of its soul. Focus on the car and forget the exhaust note, even in a standard GT you can put after market systems on to enhance the sound. The quality of the car is more important. Whilst they lose their value faster than other cars considered to be mainstay supercars, they are still thoroughbreds. There are a lot on the market which have done low mileage and lived in cities but really need more investment to keep them at their peak. It depends on how long you are planning to keep it for. is it going to be a love affair with class or a one night stand?

Well, I have pressed the button and have placed a deposit on a 4.7s auto. Should get it in a couple of weeks nuts

Keeping my 4200 spyder though, I decided it was just too pretty to sell...

So I collected the new girl today, and she is just lovely. Will post pics when I can, but allready I am very happy with my choice.
Couple of questions:

1. The glove box has a usb + an audio connector in it, plus a little ( maserati badged) cable to connect to an iPod. The connecter has the symbol that suggests its the full connectivity one, not simply the one to charge with. I can play my iPod classic through it, but I cannot control the iPod via the media centre. It just plays it as aux. do I need a different cable, or am I doing something wrong with the connection?

2. The front passenger seat glides forward electrically when tipped, but does not go back to the start position when the back rest is pushed back upright..... It goes some of the way, then stops. I then have to send the seat the rest of the way back via the seat buttons. ... Is this normal?

Agree on the colour - hope you like it. These cars are only ever let down by small electrical items:
-I only use the ipod connector for charging my iphone as there is no control on the dash. Mind my brand new Discovery has the same problem. I have downloaded CDs to the hard drive and that works fine for me;
-The seat may need a reset. There is a procedure for doing this in the handbook. Don't leave the seats folded forward with the car locked up as it throws this;
-Front parking sensors can play up if not clean/dry;
-The a/c often needs a double press on auto for it to get the message and the temperature up/down will sometimes give you 0.5c and sometimes 1.0c; and
-The Bluetooth is useless above 50 mph.

I know that most of these things are minor and a good drive in sports manual (preferably with a tunnel to bring out the best in the exhaust) will fully erase them from your memory.

The only issue which is material is that you can flatten the battery with short runs. A battery charger is a good idea if you have space to use on.

Enjoy!

Glad your all sorted you will love it.
Ref the Ipod connector Ive fitted one of the bluetooth dongles onto the end of the cable in the glovebox this has allowed me to bluetooth the music to the unit rather than having it connected or hidden away on the glove box. ( Still doesnt bring up the tracks etc on the display though.
Nice cheap mod for £5

Oval pipes used to mean it was an MC Shift car, twip pipes were Auto. This changed as the ovals became and option so it's not clear cut. I think they became an option in 2010 or so.

I've come back to this a few times and I'm sorry, but I think those wheels have ruined the look of one of the nicest cars on the road today. Do you still have the originals?
