Hello all,

I've created a new account specifically to post this as I didn't want it linkable to my company info in my profile on my 'real' account.

Right now I own a new Lamborghini, on an EU (but non-UK) registration.

We intend to use the car as a promotional vehicle, it will be wrapped in adverts advertising a website where people have a chance to win the car.

I would much prefer to swap the car onto UK plates, as our target market is UK and it would perhaps look a bit weird otherwise.

Would I be able to get a UK plated, left hand drive modern Lamborghini insured easily (or at all) given the competition aspect of it. My intention is to give the car to my dad, his name will be on the log book etc. He'll be driving it around for me which in effect is advertising the business behind it. I wasn't planning on paying him to do this though I could pay him if it would help get it insured.

Do I need to speak to a specific insurance broker or something ? If so, could anyone recommend one ?

We're looking at needing it insured for my dad & anyone over 30. Fully comp would be preferred but I'd go 3rd party again if it was the only way. I'm just not quite sure how it all goes as to whether its a personal car, or business or whatever. Given its effectively being used as an advertising vehicle. I assume I can't just go through an Elephant.com quote and insure it with the whole advertising angle ?

We already own the car so I am ready to go ahead with this immediately (assuming I can insure based on VIN number while we switch it to UK plates). Or if I can't do it then I'll just need to accept the car stays on the foreign plate (current insurance company don't care what we do with it as its only 3rd party insurance).

no reason why you could not just get quotes online.... only thing i would say is you need cover for business use as the car is promoting a business AND a chance for IT to be won..... if it was just being driven around with logo's on it, then thats not business use, but given the link between the business and the car....

would you really want a brand new lambo third party insured? i recently got insured through admiral.... you would be better to have your father and named drivers only..

If the sole purpose of the car being driven around wrapped in website logos was to promote the business, then I would have thought it did come under 'business use' ?

It wouldn't be my first choice no but if its a case of third party or I can't do it then I'll go with third party. I'd also much prefer anyone over 30 if I can, than specific named drivers. It'll give me far more promotional opportunities. If I let some random but trustable person (supplier or something) drive the car around for half an hour while I'm dealing with business there, its going to end up plastered all over their social media and so on.

There is also the issue of the wrap itself, even if it wasn't advertising. I take it that is a modification and would need clarifying too.

We're not no, and I'm not going to confirm or deny any further guesses. As all I can do is say no and you guess again, or say yes and have the thread deleted for breaking the advertising rules smile

If my car had a wrap promoting a local bar say, I didn't get paid, and i have nothing to do with the bar aside from I drink there, its not business use if I choose to have the sticker there for personal reasons... Else every car with modding company stickers on front wing is business use!

As I said, because the car is part of the business then it is business use.... As long as you do not hire the car out, all you need to tell the insurer is business use.

I think I'd be more comfortable going through a broker and explaining that to them and them agreeing, than just ploughing through the check boxes on Elephant and hoping for the best. The modding company sticker is a world of difference, you've just put that on because you want to. And its taking up no space / cost you nothing. This wrap is going to cost a couple of thousand £ and be promoting a company owned by the son of the car registered keeper so its not even close to being the same thing.

I just tried to get a quote through Elephant but they don't have an option for 'anyone over 30' etc, you need to name drivers. Does anyone know if any comparison sites / direct insurance sites do this online ?

No point even trying online sites, you need a proper broker.

Insurance_jon might be worth a call.

This is his website - http://www.commercialpropertyinsurance.co.uk

He appears to cover pretty much everything apart from vehicle insurance.

as with all such thing you need to speak to insurers / brokers honestly

do you really want to be having to buy a replacement for the winner?

anyhow, presumably the tickets will cost less than similar competitions that offer new rhd cars

and it doesn't seem you are leaving much to count against the ticket sales for your tax wink

I would have thought it would be fairly routine for a specialist broker selling car insurance for businesses.

EDIT: Perhaps ask the OP in this thread (I was browsing back through old posts)...

That's my niche site, our broader services are here, www.lockyers.co.uk including vehicles.
