I'm considering moving from a v10 manual coupe to a flappy paddle spyder. Has anyone made this change? Pros and cons please?
Thanks
I didnt do it ,but looked at it and thought the followingThanks
Against
1) less fun with flappy paddle
2) you might think you look cool, but generally driving a convertible you look a prick.
3) It makes the r8 a far less useable car,the storage space is destroyed.
for
1) convertible looks great ,better in my eyes but thats a personal thing
2) the nose is much better
3) if you do get good weather convertibles are so much fun.
Thanks Frankie. The first one I ever drove was a flappy convertible and I loved putting the rear window down and listening to the noise, especially the downshifts. I then went a bought a manual coupe thinking I'd enjoy the drive more. It looks better, it's not as aurally involving.
Bizarrely I rarely put the roof down on convertibles so looking a prick should not be an issue .

Wouldn't be able to make this change personally i have to say. The primary issue is weight - the r8 already is quite a heavy car and feels its 1600ish kg already. The extra 100kg spyder weight penalty plus a further 25kg for the dsg would make the car unacceptably heavy for a sports car imo. Plus the r8 h-box manual is a genuine pleasure to use in a world where almost every other car of that performance class is a flappy paddle!

Newcastle game? No ,not sure I can handle the sight of so many semi naked Geordies.Bizarrely I rarely put the roof down on convertibles so looking a prick should not be an issue .

Ref the cars ,I did go from coupe to spider, but as the r8 spider was so impractical I thought go the whole hog and bought a Gallardo spider, which I loved, but I couldn't handle the attention to be honest .
if you can live with the loss of some practicality and don't mind being stared at then the spider is the one to go for.

Which was the better drive taking account of the noise, coupe or spyder?Ref the cars ,I did go from coupe to spider, but as the r8 spider was so impractical I thought go the whole hog and bought a Gallardo spider, which I loved, but I couldn't handle the attention to be honest .

I assume you mean for the r8 coupe and spyder and not the lambo spyder vs r8 coupeTbh it was a few years back ,and my car had had a milltek so was a lot noiser than normal.so hard to say exactly .
But generally from the noise point a drop top is better ,especially with the little window you can drop ....it does add something to the experience.
