Everything seems a bit new and obvious really. I've no doubt that when Ferrari launch a new variant of the 488 it will go on the list, as would the latest RR, but for me I'd have more "personal" things in my collection - stuff that other people couldn't have just by ordering it from a dealer.
Yes you'd think if you had that much in cars you'd have something like a 250 TdF so you can do the MM or a SWB etc

He strikes me as a rich bloke who loves cars for being able to show off his wealth rather than being someone that has grown up genuinely loving cars. Bit odd that his oldest Porsche is a 991!

Slightly uncharitable opinion perhaps . Some people just don't like old cars . Have this argument with a friend ( also on ph) all the time , he just doesn't get my classics or my love of driving older cars .

They're the exception but then there the two older cars you'd expect someone to have to make a full set of the modern Ferrari supercars with the F50, Enzo and Laferrari.

Understand it might be a controversial opinion but that's what makes PH what it is!

In fairness to him he does raise a lot of money for charity which is fantastic but then most people that have these cars don't like to flaunt it or have a Daily Mail photo shoot when they pick their cars up. Which takes me back to my original point!

Some people just aren't fans of older cars - having never driven anything old and being quite young myself, I'm not entirely sure I'd have many (if any) old cars in my garage either. I think an F50 would probably be the oldest thing (bar maybe an e-type and a Jaguar XK140 roadster).

The video and photos etc wasn't anything to do with the DM. SCD did a video of the collection for its members to see, not sure if that was then passed onto the DM to post about though. But yes he's not as discrete with ownership as some, but in fairness he wants to share them with people to see and use them for charitable purposes which I can't fault....

That said £6.25k or £7.25K a pop to drive all 3 at vmax? not so sure about that.... they've already done circa 15k miles in each car!

Thing is you could argue that a lot of the people who own Ferrari 250s etc are not real car people, because they don't have anything from the 1930s for example... It just depends what the person prefers. Also to the person who made the point about having different cars that don't require walking into a dealership - well, basically all the classics are the same. Just walk into an auction and buy one. No different really, even if some people perceive buying "unusual" cars as better.

Excellent point . I like Ferrari and Porsche from the 60's and 70's and often get similar from older car collectors . "When are you going to get some classics "etc . It's half in jest but they don't consider that era old enough to be special . A lot of it has to do with whet you grew up lusting after and experiences .
I saw a 275 gtb as a child and it blew me away, especially when the lovely old boy driving it gave it full beans and gave me a queen like wave , I knew I had to have one . Incidentally the opposite is true re bad experiences .
I once saw a purple Diablo , I was very young I was looking at it very respectfully in a petrol station , the owner walked over and bellowed "get away from my effing car !". It really scared and embarrassed me . I've never really liked lambos and wonder if that has something to do with it

This thread is classic PH - reminds me of the Lewis Hamilton thread where people don't like his life choices.

From what little I know of Paul Bailey, he and his wife sound like car nuts. I understand he made his money in technology so perhaps he likes the newest, fastest, best that man can make available. If that's the case, he's nailed it. Maybe he's just a show off.

Either way, he and his wife are paying the bills so they get to chose. The fact he shares the cars so openly should attract praise rather than criticism in my mind but maybe tha opinion makes me the one at odds with the spirit of PH.

I had no idea my rather modest collection overlapped with his - thanks for pointing this out.
Seems he's made a little vid about it, with a walkabout of his incredible garage thrown in.

Can't be bothered top read all of the rantings here, but Paul and Selene are genuine people, petrolheads and both dead keen on the supercars which they are lucky enough to be able to afford. Much of their activity with the cars is raising money for charity and I won't hear anyone say a word against them ..period.

He doesn't get me either, though thought he had an old Élan ?. Saw the Brumos Wednesday, my ST having the fuel pump sorted. Hats off.
