Wow, well just experienced the finest example of this! Driving along on a town road with two lanes - one to go straight, one to turn right. I'm in the left hand lane going straight and drive past a guy doing a few mph less than me in the turn right lane.

Slow down to stop at the lights and he rolls down his window and shouts at me:

"Are you a total c**t?"

I'm somewhat shocked... but he continues...

"You almost drove right into the side of me!"

I reply with "Uh what... dead straight road, dual lanes, 20mph... no I didn't"

"You bast**d..." he continues before my fiery Brazilian girlfriend jumps in with the retaliation "WHAT!? YOU THE BAST**D, YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHING, etc, etc"

I leave her to it for a second before turning to him and saying "Whatever man, enjoy your Mini" and drive off in the Ferrari.

Mad old scottish guy is absolutely mad. Such boring crap but at least it made my girlfriend laugh for a few minutes afterwards!

He's clearly an idiot but your comment was pretty cringe heavy.

More cringey than the "fiery Brazilian girlfriend"?

How is this a case of jealousy? The guy in question never said anything about the car just the way you had driven it would it of been any different if you were in any other car?

By the sounds of it you didn't cover yourself in glory, as mentioned before I have encountered some abuse once and I just smiled at him

I'd like to have heard the other guys side of the story.

As is clearly demonstrated, there are as many weapons grade tools driving Super Cars as there are bitter people that hate.

As regards the ' lots of work for Chariddee' , I know of several that attend these events, though I am sure this does not apply to all, and again it remains more than clear that their motives for attending are not perhaps as clear cut as would seem.
Some are in their perfect environment, revelling in the fawning and gratitude whilst standing next to their automotive offspring, basking in a glow of their own self importance.
I asked one, who obviously had the time to attend this event, to perhaps assist with a sponsored hospice van wash the next month, instead of bringing his car to stand by.....he was never to be seen again.

I referred to my lovely girlfriend as a fiery brazilian to inject a little humour and set the scene. I'm just a friendly enough guy posting online, there is no reason for you to be so aggressively searching for things to criticise. Don't like it? Well you know what, I'm sorry for that, but we'd all be able to get along a bit better if you just let it slide.

OK, OK, sure, but cut me a little slack here. In the heat of the moment it is quite hard to think of a retort that is both classy and cutting! I am by no means one of this generation's great wordsmiths, so I thought I did quite well to at least avoid cursing after the shock of being referred to as a 'total c**t' by an old guy.

I can't believe the responses from you guys! I'm sure the guy does have his own side to the story. Regardless of that, his manner was ridiculous and the language he used totally absurd given the situation. So ultimately does it really matter? I was actually quite shocked by the encounter and simply posted for perhaps a little empathy from understanding PHers who may have experienced similar such things. It really is as simple as that.

If in another thread my attacker were to post about some 'jumped up good for nothing yuppie wannabe weapons grade tool' almost driving into the side of him (and on a straight road no less!), I'd be more than happy to take his word for it and assure him it's all going to be OK.

I too had a Sud, loved it nice interior and a Pioneer stereo!

Dad bought it for my mother when it was about 18 months old, a white 1.5SC with twin choke carbs i seem to remember, I bought it just before its third birthday.

Used to be more than a match for my mates 2.0 Capri.

Anyway i 105 out of mine ( on the speedo ) down a big hill on a dual carriageway chasing an XJS and as he chickened out at the sweeping right hander at the bottom swept past on the outside - arh the stupidity of youth, but happy days

Jag driver had the last laugh though, the engine rattled awfully on start up after that and I had to have the big end shells replaced, just before it needed welding to get it through its first MOT.

As a 19 year old I just couldn't afford the bills ( the engine work was more than a months salary ) so I sold it for a cow pat coloured ( autumn gold ) 1275 GT mini that was horrible.

I bet Alfasud NOB 822X was recycled a very long time ago.

From experience this kind of unreasonable aggression is the only kind of jealousy I have experienced and is easy to deal with. These people are simply angry with life and their natural target to offload their frustration is often directed at the most successful. Best way to respond is by turning their aggression on themselves.

Never try to reason with the unreasonable.

This. I often scan various classifieds looking for my 1980s Alfasud Ti 1.5 Veloce. It's probably long gone to rust heaven but to me that car was every bit as special as my current Italian stable.
+1
I had one in Giallo Fly. Handling & balance was similar to a 250 GTO but had far more rust patches and electrical fires than its illustrious Maranello cousin.
As exciting to drive as a 212, without the worry of donking it. Still appreciate the simple honesty and thrill of that Alfa smile

Alfasud ti: I had one of the very early ones in metallic green. Wonderful car which, for the period, was an absolute revelation to drive. Early 1.2 engine which revved look ever.

It did have a monumental rust problem. I changed a front wing and the way it was built ensured it would trap water and we'd leaves right in the gaps at the top rear corner. alpha had tried to seal it with pu foam which made things worse.

Naturally it all rusted out within 4 years from new!

Umm...maybe the alfasud discussion can be moved to the 'is my alfasud a supercar' thread!?

One of the first cars I drove after passing my driving test and had really nice communicative handling even for a beginner but, I keep checking in on this thread and it's slightly off topic

What kind of abuse do you get from them for owning such a car? Do you feel that you have been prevented from driving your Alfasud because of this? biggrin
