I had the complete opposite tonight!

Contrary to Robbo's ridiculous post above which seems to distil down to anyone driving a supercar anywhere at all except on the Nurburgring is just attention whoring I usually feel pretty awkward when people gather around the car.

I came out of a shop earlier and a girl about 20ish was on the phone, to her boyfriend I'm guessing.
She's saying "Oh my god it's amazing, I don't know what it is but it's just amazing!
It looks like a spaceship, I so want this car, oh my god!"
I walked across the small car park and opened the passenger door to put my shopping in and she went
"OH MY GOD THE DOORS GO UP!!! THE fkING DOORS GO UP!!!" (This is Essex!)

I've had lots of nice cars and buy them because I like them, not for what other people think.
I could have bought a Huracan or a 458 Spider but I went for the 650S, which judging by the general PH reaction to Mclaren is about as popular as a Citroen 2CV! I don't care, I buy the car which thrills me the most and have no interest in brands for the sake of it, but every now and again it is nice to hear someone who is genuinely blown away by your car.

You must have felt 'sooooo' awkward with all that attention. Have you ventured out since ?.

100% positive response to all my cars in my experience.

But you get what you give.

I chat with people, let kids have photos taken in and with the cars, and point out they're just cars when people comment. I smile and wave when people acknowledge it, if its someone in anything interesting Ive typically acknowledged their ride before they mention mine. For example, I was complimenting a guy's big bumper Mk2 Vw Golf GTi at a petrol station the other day before he had chance to comment on my 997.2GT3RS.

Owning a super car does not make you super. I'm still the 9 year old who dreamed of a red Ferrari. I react to it sat in the garage the same way I reacted to the poster on my bedroom wall as a kid. I.e. "WOW" although now I add "I can't believe I own a Ferrari".

Cars are awesome eh. Just the shape, the smell, the noise. The fact you could wake up tomorrow, think "sod it", jump in and drive to the top of the Italian Alps if you wanted. How mad and great is that. Awesome.

biggrin

Nah Rob the experience has hit me so hard I've decided I can't live with all the attention. I'm going to stick some for sale signs on the windows and drive up and down the High Street all day tomorrow.

@ _LEG_:
Lovely isn't it, the Dolos e.g. are just georgeous
to drive (the smaller the roads the better).

We'll be off to Lake Garda (26th week) with Malcesine
serving as our accomodation again and take our daytrips
from there to both Tuscany and the Dolomites. Very much
looking forward to it and: The Italians love our cars.
Even 80+ year old grandfathers suddenly rising from their
barchairs when you go by waving their hats and shouting
'Forza, forza!'. Gotta see it to believe it. wink

Take care and enjoy !

Early stages of both Swerns but then I am 51. Most of my mates are fat and bald anyway so I'll be happy to join them while still enjoying the pleasure of fast cars.

Fat, bald and fast, that I can live with!

+1.

As much as I wish the 12c was able to fade into the background better and it does make me feel quite uncomfortable with the attention the it gets, I remember I was once the kid who had to be dragged away from various nice cars whenever I managed to spot one....

Still wish there was a camo/disguise button that made it look completely anonymous to anyone else but me though!

He looked up and said "you'll never fking own one mate". And with that he gunned his motor and sped off covering 30 feet in traffic. I drew alongside again, couldn't be bothered to say anything and just grinned at him.

Sorry, some supercar owners are complete knobs.
Haha....I hope he reads PH! What a plank.

I think I saw you two, was that picture taken in June 2012?
I saw the two cars in the car park at the end of the Grossglockner, and then, after the tunnel where the road expands a bit you overtook me in my rental car; cars sounded very very nice smile

Went to a Kensington Council residents feedback meeting a few weeks ago ........... I only lasted 20 mins , BUT the entire time all the "disgusted residents" were moaning was about supercars
They are trying to ban them from the borough and when told that may be difficult , they want all supercar drivers to given an instant ASBO ..
Strong feelings in the borough then ....
I saw two La Ferraris , a P1 and a 918 parked outside a block of swish flats with their drivers mulling around , all looked under 25 , jealousy ........ yes sadly I could never afford .
Anyway I am sure they enjoy them .

Now THAT is quite some coincidence then !

You're correct: we were there in june 2012.

Hope You were not put to risk when we were overtaking,
as we make it a general habit not to drive like some
lunatic pr*cks when the road-situation isn't clear.

Especially on passes, it's better to be patient than
risk somebody elses life who's not involved.

If we want to go REALLY fast, we stay on a track
(The Ring or Hockenheim) or on some lonely roads in
the middle of nowhere.

Sadly, not everyone thinks that way...

This was us on Stelvio that same summer:
