No. "Has to be special" ie classy, which rules out anything American.
You asked, we replied. Everyone dreams of something different.

Presumably Ford GT's are not special or 'classy'? (although obviously way more than the budget for this thread)

I stand by my original choice, and so should the person who said Corvette (have you seen a new C7 up close?)

A better title for the thread might be 'Which would you buy for £80k - Gallardo or F430?' if you're being picky and don't agree with someones choice.

So there !!!

have to be a 430 but i would say that, though to be fair the DBS is a good shout, just had me looking in the classifieds at that one!

3 years ago I turned my nose up on a 100k mile GT. I just don't see why they should command this money. I think I'll call Hexagon tomorrow and offer them my 944 though...
Mint manuals are rare. In the US a mint low miles GT/GTS will be north of $100K. As an 80's bedroom poster car they were sitting alongside the Countach and Testarossa posters, an iconic car now within reach for that generation. Seems they are now on the move.

Wow. I sold mine a few years back for a tenth of that. Mind you, it did have 204k miles on the clock and needed renovating, but still.....

Right folks - the game has moved on. I might be a bit bored with my current Lotus but I have never fallen out of love with the way it drives and the feel on the road. Well Friday I tested a 430 and I have finally found in it a bigger better Elise. Yes I know its bigger and faster and prettier and more expensive but the important bit to me is that it felt in many ways like a very similar car to drive. The 911 never felt like that at all. Indeed it never really felt "special".

So the question now comes down to 355 or 360 or 430 - what are the differences, the pro and con of each. I might be able to afford a Ferrari but I dont want to see silly amounts of money disappearing down the drain so which of these is likely to be the least expensive everything included. I am likely to keep the car for 5 or 6 years going maybe 3/4k pa. I can do the spec research on line so what I'm hoping for is some owner advice from posters who have owned two or three of the possibles I list.

Looking through the 430 listings I was surprised to see a few manual cars much cheaper than the flappy paddle ones. Surprised because most enthusiasts seem to prefer manual gearboxes. Is this not the case with Ferrari?

Why do I not see any private for sale ads? Am I looking in the wrong places? Would you buy such an expensive car privately?

No doubt I will post this post and immediately think of a dozen more questions ................

We did, but it came recommended from a very reputable source. Inspection required for obvious reasons.

Gorgeous. If that was a manual it'd be on my drive.

360 and 430 are both quite reliable. I prefer the 360 for looks and noise, and character. 430 all round is a better car. Drive both and see how you feel, i prefer the manual. Have a look on this site by PH'er voicey http://aldousvoice.com/

I might be able to help with a bit of insight having run the following:

355 Spider : My first Ferrari ( had it 7/8 years when many others have come and gone), love it to bits great for A road fun, certainly wouldn't want to go touring in it couldn't ever sell it !!!
360 : Had it for about a year felt very soulless next to the 355, I didn't bond with it
430 : Better than the 360 and an excellent sports car, probably a very good compromise
550 : Still have this one, love it to bits the complete opposite of the 355, wonderful for touring, have done several 600+ miles days in it
Granturismo : Had the early 4.2, loved it. Not a sports car but more cruiser / everyday v the 550
MC Shift : had a loan one for 6 months, great car not as nimble as the 550 but more practical every day
997's : Ran these along side the Ferrari's as my every day, had 2 x 2's like an everyday BMW bit bland but great for every day ( bear in mind my previous 911's were a GT2, 3 993's and a 2.7rs lightweight)

I think if I had to choose one for a bit of Europe and general touring it would be the 550 unless you had to use it everyday then it would be the MC shift.

Have driven but not owned DBS,DB9,V8 wanted to like them but found them really claustrophobic

Not sure if that helps

That's an interesting car, I first saw that four or five years back at another dealer. Tempting at that price...

I suggest buying quickly as prices are only going one way. People are currently throwing cash into cars like they did with property ten years ago but, more like artwork, there's an additional bonus for rarity/name (brand).

For your usage I'd be very tempted by a 599 like this....

No big expenditure on 3 or 5 year cambelts as it's the newer engine with chain drive, awesome machine, fantastic engine, always felt special and won't lose money I don't think.

That would be very tempting.

Maybe a V10 R8 Spyder?

Of the three you listed, the 430 will be cheaper (lol) to own due to it not needing expensive cam belts (or seriously expensive cambelts on a 355) Despite what others might say, it is also totally different animal to a 360 or 355 although some think the looks are a little suspect. I might be biased though....
