Most hypercars seem to have appalling visibility to the right rear quarter, making joining a dual carriageway or motorway an act of blind faith in a country where you drive on the left. I was pondering this and wondering, if I were to find myself in possession of a huge amount of money, what car I'd spend it on to use in the UK.

Porsche 918? LHD only
La Ferrari? LHD only.
McLaren P1? LHD only.
Bugatti Veyron? LHD only.
Etc.

So, what is the most extreme car on the market that is[ available in RHD?

There are examples of Pagani Huuraya / Zonda, Koenigsegg in RHD but very rare
After those in terms of cars available does a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster qualify ?

If 750bhp, 2.8 seconds 0-60mph and a top speed of 217mph is fast enough for you the Lamborghini Aventador 750-4 is available in RHD.

If that's a bit slow then Koenigsegg will build you a RHD car with well over 1000bhp, or you could go for a Pagani Huayra.

XJ220?

Visibility and ease of use probably worse than all the above put together though.

Hard to look past Koenigsegg here, to be honest. Funny how they manufacture in small quantities yet have no apparent problems with RHD! Also, although they're not hypercars, aren't some of the 60s racers (even from Ferrari) RHD?

I suppose just to make the debate more interesting, McLaren went LHD only for the P1 but the F1 of course has a central seating position..

But isn't the shifter on the right/right side ?? makes it more LHD than RHD ;-)

Could always juice up a 911 GT2 just to get hyper car performance, supercar pricing and sports car usability!

Some interesting suggestions there.

I really don't get why they don't build £1m cars in RHD. Surely it's as simple as manufacturing a few components the other way round? If someone's paying that much for a car they should be able to have what they want.

They didn't - it's a conversion.

That was because the pits at Le Mans are on the right so makes driver changes easier.

I don't get why people are that bothered. Joining a dual carriageway / motorway is a cinch - you should be looking at the traffic stream as you join, well before it all becomes a matter for rearward views.

It's a lot more involved than you'd think and involves many more components than you'd think. Ergonomics, pedal offsets, transmission tunnel space and more make it a big exercise. If it is thought about at the earliest stages in the process, it can be done. Leaving it late in the design process makes it a considerable cost.

Even when thought through, there are almost always compromises. Mercedes did a car in the 80s which had height adjustable seats for the driver. But they forgot about RHD so these versions had height adjustment for the passenger and not the driver. Because it was to do with the seat rails, not just the seats themselves.

Your best bet for a true RHD car is a Japanese one. But they don't make hypercars these days...

Curious to know why the majority of RHD ones would be in North America....
