Classic British reaction, OP gets told off for choice of words, when infact the serious issue here is the pr$ck with a driving licence who could have had a head on collision with an oncoming car, possibly a young family of 4

Grow up chaps.
except of course we only have the OPs story

on my cross country commute there are a number of places where you can pass perfectly safely especially if you use the sight lines across the fields etc ... but the amount of 42 mph everywhere gimboids who flash and beep if you pass them ...

There has been an occasion whilst pressing on in the Evora on B roads where I have had to slow up because I genuinely thought the guy behind trying to keep up in his Golf GTi was going to go off the road on some of the bends.

In this case the evora (not a supercar) was superior at cornering to the golf, but of course the golf would be superior for a trip to Tesco top get the weeks shopping
I actually went back to check the road after a bike that I was "Playing" with disappeared from behind me... Let them go now, it's not clever ;-)

Yeah right... Mclaren 650 V Vauxhall Vectra, that was always going to be a safe overtake...

where's the Parrot again ...

typical PHer in an expensive car = driving god , anyone else = sub DSA test standard steering wheel operative ...

sadly observations from practice suggest otherwise ...

The OP does seem to have got a pretty hard time in this thread.

Of course there are bad drivers in all types of cars, from Robin Reliants to LaFerraris. But it is also a fact that if you're driving a "supercar" you are much more likely to have somebody glued to your rear bumper and desperate to overtake you than if you're driving a Ford Focus.

The best example I had was several years ago when a people carrier seemed to be attached to the rear of my car in a 60mph limit. As we approached a 30mph limit, I obviously braked - not emergency stop type braking by any means but I certainly used brakes to slow down rather than gradual engine braking. At the next set of traffic lights, the driver got out of the car and started shouting abuse at me (and threatening to hit me) because I'd caused him to brake hard, and he had his young kids in the car!

I did try pointing out that if he had young kids in the car he probably should leave a sensible gap to the car in front but that didn't seem to get through.

I've noticed this a lot lately, guys in their People Carriers are the worst, bullied into buying one by the wife their behaviour is ridiculous. Actually it tends to be guys in their mid 30's upwards overall.

The younger lads tend to give the thumbs up or take pics.

The OP has taken the normal grief from a minority of morons but I understand what he is saying and agree.

And to prove the people carrier point (not following a supercar though) https://www.facebook.com/richard.bray.9638/videos/...

No reason for it not to be, unless the McLaren driver chooses to make it dangerous.

exactly

accelerating while being overtaken to prevent someone from passing is , i suspect careless if not dangerous driving should it come to court ...

never mind those who play chicken at merge points whether in flowing traffic or due to road works etc

I tend to move over if I see something much faster comming up behind. Like the Focus RS I let past the other day, nice to see them roar off until the next r/bout when you catch them up.

Same thing with what I thought was a ferrari the other day, looked the part 100% until he booted it and then I released it was an MR2 in disguise!

I never had any negative comments etc when driving my 550, but I have to agree with many others on here, that there does seem to be some invisible sticker on the car which says 'race me', 'overtake me' or 'challenge me'. Ive never encountered this in any other car Ive owned. Its not all the time by any stretch, but on numerous occasions when overtaking on dual carriageways, the car Im passing will speed up whilst Im passing it and in some cases re overtake me when I pull in. Others cruise next to you on the motorway gesturing for a race and some make a point of overtaking you as fast as their Zafira with the baby on board sign will allow them.

I never rose to the bait and just always found it a bit childish. And it was always people in 'normal' cars or sporty Audis, never proper sports cars etc.

Its a funny old world...

The OP 'backed right off' when he saw the car approaching. Read the original post.

As has been said several times it could have been phrased better but it is an issue. I've lost count of times where I've backed off to let some tool past me before he took me out of someone coming the other way. A problem I've very rarely seen in my DD.

I only drive a Fiesta ST, but I still have people in all sorts of cars doing silly things. The fact that you drive a sueprcar is more than likely irrelevant as there are idiots everywhere regardless of others and what they are driving.

Except that, as many of us have pointed out - it's not irrelevant.

The vast majority of us have normal daily drivers, and one or more 'fun' cars which are used much less often - but when used illicit this kind of behaviour far more. The difference is very obvious.

I have to agree with the opc's point about the fact super cars attract idiots !

I am so bored with it I just pull over and let them pass, it seems I take the wind out of their sales

And brings my blood pressure down

When I had a 911 it was usually hollow eyed dads in Picassos or similar mpvs that would pull out all the stops to justify they could beat a car that their wife wouldn't let them have.

Which, to be fair, is exactly what I was doing when he made his crazy pass into the blind right hander!

I only drive a humble Fiesta Zetec S, and I do absolutely cane it (I like driving pretty hard), but obviously am aware of towns villages etc. But the amount of dreadful driving I see on a daily basis is horrific. Old people I find are HORRENDOUS, at pulling out at junctions either without looking or at the very last minute causing you to almost pull an emergency stop.

In regards to the OP I completely understand what you mean, I helped a friend take, and bring back his 430 when it was in for repair, and the amount of knobs you get on the motorway is ridiculous, trying to undertake dangerously etc just to prove a point. One lady in a 1.4 A3, undertook us both and then slammed on her brakes in front of the Fezza. I genuinely don't understand how some individuals are allowed to have licenses. I do think that certain cars bring out the dad/boy racers out more readily though e.g. bright red 430/458 aventador etc.

Another issue, on A roads/motorways especially is phone use with super cars, trying to catch them up to take a photo and almost swerving into the car trying to take a photo. I completely understand why they want to take a photo but the amount of times Ive seen it happen its unreal.

The class of the individual is not necessarily the point, its more that those in less powerful cars seem to almost want to prove themselves against a much faster vehicle, almost like willy wagging to say I overtook a porsche etc!

I have an Aston Martin V8VS which isn't really a supercar but I find BMW drivers terrible especially since changing from an Audi. No one gave the Audi any respect, but BMW drivers now go out of their way to undercut me, not let me filter when 2 lanes go into 1, or just turn into my lane at a round about causing me to brake hard. Everyone else stays out of my way apart from people giving me the thumbs up or waiting to drive through a tunnel with me. I strangely get a lot of love from Mercedes drivers.

Not sure how BMW drivers haven't been mentioned yet. Is it just a London thing?
