So what is a convoy?

Say I borrow my mates Lamborghini and drive into town, and a veyron pull out of a side road in front of me and a zonda pulls out behind me, am I now in a convoy and breaking an asinine law?

There are already laws in place to deal with driving offences, anti social behaviour, noise, obstruction etc

EXACTLY thumbup

So the real question is why are they not being used? Take the example of the cars that were reving their engines and setting off the shop alarms. The Police turned up, the guy carried on revving the car, the officer walked over to the car and told him to stop it and allowed them to leave! WHY?

Why were they not pulled over at the side of the road, driving licences shown, insurance shown etc etc.....

I reckon if I did that I would be hung on the nearest street light!

To be fair McLaren may be giving him the car at a significantly reduced rate for the publicity. I did find it odd he went from a 650 to a 675 instead of trying something new which would surely be more interesting for both him and his followers.
Haha there is no chance whatsoever he's getting a significant discount because of his Youtube channel. He comes across on camera badly, doesn't have any real reach publicity wise and most of his followers are not even old enough to drive, let alone afford McLarens. Its a non starter asking McLaren for a discount.... he'd be laughed out of the dealership.

Do McLaren let anyone pick their cars up from the factory?

So with his 195.5m lifetime views over a few years according to YouTube stats it says $266000-666000 (£170-425k)) be suprised if you could run a new 650 or take the depreciation hit and live on that, if it's 100-150k pa minus tax. Kid is living the dream though money making hobby.
That to me makes leasing a succession of McLarens very affordable especially as the lease payments might become tax allowable as the car promotes the business
That's over 9 years. So it's £20k-£45k a year before tax. Certainly nice extra spends but not £200k car purchasing money. Still, that is the dream that all the annoying little kids running round with handycams in Knightsbridge think is the reality.
For those wondering where Shmee150 gets his money from hear it from the man himself if in a somewhat vague fashion:

Sounds a bit like Lord Aleem's version of how he affords cars.

Not that it's anybody's business, but if your going to put it out there , that sounds unlikely to buy Supercars, couple of websites, etc , perpetuating the YouTube myth ..........anyone know a newish McLaren thats not lost s lot of money in recent times

Have a lot more respect if he was encouraging responsible behaviour, rather than the majority of his video titles which are pretty self explanatory, don't blame him but you can't have it both ways. That last video saying its UK drivers only is just embarrassing. Like many I won't even go into london in a nice car now beause of the constant harassment by the "spotters".

Time for a new trend of ethical spotting maybe!

He really doesn't want to answer the question, does he?

I wonder why. I suspect because the real answer is "daddy's money" but who knows laugh

UK drivers blame dribble is utter nonsense.

Most of these Arab guys treat Central London as their playground, day in day out! Driving fast, reving, wheel spins etc (there are plenty of videos plastered all over youtube, including Schmees channel; clearly contradicting himself).

I actually put part of the blame on this Schmee guy, he encouraged these spotters and now I liken the spotter problem in Central London to the clandestines at Calais.

More and more of them, running around all over town and in some cases encroaching on peoples privacy.

Good to kids enthusiastic, but this isn't the right way IMO.

Shame no one posts a video on youtube in response to the Schmee video.

This law is fantastic!

That said, I know a few of these youngsters (the sons of reasonably senior Qatari royals) that used to fly their cars over as part of their European tour. (London, South of France/Monaco, Puerto Banus etc). They said to me that that they are unbelievably embarrassed by the behavior of other Qataris and other Arab visitors- so much so, they've stopped flying their cars over.
The few cars they DO have now are registered as UK cars and kept in the country in an effort to be totally transparent when it comes to motoring and parking laws.

What's interesting is that they also said to me that their uncle (the Emir) was so utterly incensed and embarrassed by the episode of the illegal parking outside Harrods (which hit the newspapers) of the Koenigsegg/Aventador that he ordered the cars to be seized (and never returned to the owners) when they were flown back to Qatar. Furthermore he said that the Qatari nationals have been ORDERED to drive sensibly and "modestly" in London or they can expect further draconian punishment from their "ruler" on return to the country.

I will say, that I forgive these kids - as long as they don't hurt someone - they're just teenagers playing. But then I don't live in area.

What I DO find unbelievably embarrassing and toe-curling (and harder to forgive) are the of middle aged men hooning down Brompton Road in convoy.... It looks so pathetic.. I can't believe people do it. I don't care if it's an Enzo and F50 - revving your engine on Berkeley Square is so embarrassing it makes ME squirm and I'm just a bystander!

Anyway.....

Also gents, why all the hate for Shmee - he's just a kid and on the basis he's not a criminal, what business is it to YOU how he "get's his money" ? Good grief. Pathetic.
And although I find his "presenting" a little irritating, he's not forcing anyone to drive like a hooligan.

I don't think anyone hates Shmee, he seems a nice guy and puts up some interesting stuff, I also agree the issue of money should be private, but if your going to maintain a position that is unlikely and in the public eye then you have to expect people may question it. The problem is all the kids running around trying to get or create video of extreme footage is being pushed along by the thought that it is a big money earner and will buy them a McLaren, he has almost single handily created this and its why the kids follow him. Shmee is their king and its created a nightmare of people trying to emulate him with ever more annoying and dangerous antics, this is not his fault, but he does perpetuate the myth. I can't really see what he can do about it either, other than perhaps criticise unacceptable behaviour from both spotters and drivers rather than glamorise it in the hope his followers will adopt this attitude as well.

Its a sad day when people are overexcited and happy to see a car accident or fight with a resident and would rather film it than help (I'm talking in general here) its a modern plague though.

Probably about time they did something about it. Not sure they needed a new law however, seems a bit stupid.

I have to agree with Topjay here. Personally I have no problem with Shmee, as I mentioned earlier he seems like a passionate and decent bloke. But like it or not he is currently held up as the calendar boy by his legion of follows all desperate to emulate his apparent success. How can owning a soon to be delivered 675LT on the back of YouTube hits in such a short space of time not be attractive to the spotty youth currently swarming all over Knightsbridge.

And as is the British way some people just can’t stand to see someone do well and will look to try and tear them down which is a shame

The only problem I have with Shmee is how he is now trying to deflect the blame for a situation that is now getting out of control on too a few Brits, which in part he is responsible for if not directly then most certainly indirectly. The evidence is out there, I have witnessed it myself on numerous occasions. The Arabs have been playing fast and loose with the law for years now, it was only a matter of time before this happened

I suspect we could soon have the police accusing the spotters of loitering and inciting criminal behaviour as their next round against this situation that has developed

Imagine if you owned one of those high end designer shops on Sloane Street. You’d be pretty p***ed off if you had groups of scruffy youths milling around outside all day. Certainly a turn off for your customers.
