I have a 4200,

Great bit of kit and as said could easily be a daily, just have to be prepared to swallow the fuel costs, engines are pretty much bomb proof in these.

Oh stop now ... Just seen a spider version drive through the village and despite my best efforts, cannot make the man maths work this time, despite SWMBO bordering on positive.

I run a Maserati 3200 GTA as an everyday car. I'm sure a Porsche would be more reliable but it will never look half as pretty. I was unsure whether to get a 4200 or 3200 but am happy with my choice - the 3200 is better finished & is the last true Maserati engine, plus the turbo power is something else. And then there are the boomerang rear lights. It's the kind of car that makes other drivers be nice to you. So long as you find a good independent specialist to look after it, it's affordable & the 16mpg won't be too dreadful if you're only doing 6000 miles per annum.

If you're not a badge snob then the Toyota Supra is a good amount of performance for the money in that price range.
In fact I'd say a Supra for that money would possibly give you the power vs money spent that would be better than any other car on the market. On top of that you'd get the reliability and the worry free factor to do as many miles as you like.

Always thought the Supra is one of those cars that has aged really well over the years.
And for £15k+ you could easily go for one of the UK-spec models which are quite rare and sought after.

I know a guy who has owned his Supra for a good few years, a UK-spec 6-speed with just over 400bhp. Its a cracking car to be honest.
This. £15k gets you a mint UK 6 speed, £20k gets you a bonkers big turbo version.

You'll almost certainly see your cash back too

Definitely on my list, before they get too old.

OP, have you considered a Jaaag XKR? Plenty of choice of the X150 body style around your budget and they seem to meet your criteria. E.g.: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Yes, I'm biased, but they're definitely everyday usable with remarkably low maintenance/servicing costs.

Edit: Balls - you said "pre 2006". Is that because of the VED? £500 a year is a bit painful, but the servicing costs on these are so realistic that overall the costs might be no higher than something like the Maser.
Or go a generation earlier (depending on how useable the rear seats need to be)...:

I'm running a x150 Xkr as a weekender at the moment
I've had a Cerbera ..loved it to bits
Maser 3200 loved that too...very stylish and great marque
Esprit V8 also good
Had a Corvette too which was great

But I'm more than happy with the Xkr,stylish, quick, great noise positive reaction from others and all for under £20k

Not wishing to start an argument but none of the cars being discussed are "supercars". As for a £15k - £20k supercar, I think Top Gear dispelled that myth here

I know its subjective, but I have to disagree about the TVR unless your criteria is the 200mph club - the Cerbera is 4.2 0-60 and around 180mph. I personally would say thats supercar.

I bought this Cerbera as I wanted a supercar with the similar criteria as the OP. Its fantastic, sounds great, supercar quick, pretty practical, good looking... above all though it feels 'special'.
