Would you swap a 458 Aperta for a 918 Spyder + NO cash

There really does seem to be some over supply of 918's at the moment, I know of one OPC who has at least three he's trying hard to sell, and a quick look at the classifieds on PH shows quite a few more. Equally there are almost no Aperta's for sale at the moment and those which are trading are rumoured to be going for not far off 500k.
Suspect there was a huge difference in how the two companies signed clients up for these cars - in essence Porsche were (for a long time) struggling to sell the 918 and would probably have sold to anyone and everyone, whereas Ferrari followed their usual strategy for their limited models of "we'll decide if you can have a car", oh and if you sell it don't ever darken our door again". The result is therefore fairly predictable.....
However, a flat swap....? No way.

But longer term, will an Aperta really out-price a 918? 16Ms are currently £250-330k depending on mileage; similar age but not convertible 360CS at £140-180k; Carrera GT £475-760 depending on mileage. I don't know what the current value trends are, but there's still a fairly significant difference there.Aperta on the other hand has strong demand.

^ this. One is Porsche's all out no expense spared technology showcase built to an incredible standard.
The other is a tarted up standard model convertible with build quality that is nothing to shout about and already has considerable scuttle shake and almost certainly will be built in larger numbers than Ferrari will claim despite the 'limited run' status.
Utter madness to even have to think about it in a flat swap IMO.

Porsche CGT now moving up but still way behind the F50, and behind the F40 for that matter too.
Haven't driven a 918 but mates say it's incredible. Buying purely on future values is a mugs game but Ferrari's LE cars seem to have a consistent X Factor the others can't quite match.

It's purely supply and demand. I have access to around 5 918's at the moment and I have two clients who want Apertas and there just aren't any available in the spec they want (yet).

Maybe you do, because 918 owners bought a car that they couldn't have expected to go up in value in the short term, which now fetches c£1m. I know of 3 that have definitely sold for this in the last month, and who isn't tempted by at 400-500k turn?It's purely supply and demand. But, how many 918 would you have access to if you were offering to swap for an Aperta or the cash equivalemt - probably none..??
I almost sold my 918 for a quick win, as I do expect them to go down in value in the medium term,, but it is a one-off, exactly to my spec, and I realised all I would do with the profit would be to spend it on other cars which are more likely to drop value in the future!
It's one of three 'hypercars' produced at a moment in time that will always be remembered as one of the high points in car history. The SA is a nice car, but it is not on the same planet as a 918.

Nice post. I watched the next door neighbour too where I work have some cars delivered last week. There were a fair few but stand outs were the 918, the P1 and the La Ferrari. I enjoyed looking at them all but did wonder, in a few years what will be the most wanted? When i were a nipper the battle was F40v959. Occasionally see the odd F40, but can't remember seeing a 959 on the road in the last 20 years.But, how many 918 would you have access to if you were offering to swap for an Aperta or the cash equivalemt - probably none..??
