Supercar Terrible experience at Dunsfold Park
Discussion
I've done 6th gear at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Lutterworth. Great experience, drove the Gallardo and Aston Vantage - to be fair the Gallardo was well used, didnt feel safe to push it, but the Aston was great very go kart esque. First instructor was cautious, probably the car....second guy was mental.
The driven hot lap in the Focus RS/ST (cant remember which!) driven by the professional driver was probably the best part....guy was very impressive with his skills!
Overall great experience, would recommend it.

Yep we had a dreadful experience at Dunsfold recently too- Bought a 3 x Supercar experience for my sons 18th- What a waste of time and money-
Total bunfight once there- chaotic, shambolic, with patronising staff more interested in themselves, dozens of chav's milling around.
We all hated every minute, in fact we had more fun driving the Maserati there and back than my son actually had crawling around the track in 6th gear with a disinterested, patronising rude "instructor".
Never again.

I would urge anyone who wants a true driving experience and a fantastic day where the instructors crucify you for NOT pushing it to do a Palmersport day at Bedford Autodrome!
Everything about the day is fantastic - from rolling up at the gate to the excellent catering, the awesome instructors, the format of the day, not to mention the huge run-off areas that do get used, and to much humour of the instructors etc.
Saying that, I did an experience at Croft when I was much younger which was also very good, although not in the same league as the Palmersport day. It's not cheap but it's worth every penny.

Have to agree I found my day and the way the staff spoke to me just the same.
Strange there are no reviews on the Everyman Racing website which asks you to leave one.
Spoke to me as if I was a learner driver, then told me to pull out into the path of their minibus which did not stop.
Dread to think what would have happened if I had done what he told me to do.

The mirrors are set to the instructor in every car for safety reasons, and it helps all of our customers enjoy the drive more as its one less thing for them to concentrate on. It is slightly unnerving, however for track safety, it's the safest option.
Wonder what they would have said if I pulled out and crashed into their minibus?

So it was with Everyman, interesting. That's the same company I did my track experience with at Prestwold and like I said earlier in the thread it was a totally different experience to yours. I wonder, because the one you went to was at Dunsfold, the staff there dont try as hard because its the famous Top Gear test track. I did consider going to Dunsfold for that very reason, am glad I didnt in the end!Total bunfight once there- chaotic, shambolic, with patronising staff more interested in themselves, dozens of chav's milling around.

I did the same at Dunsfold - although was allowed to over 70mph.
It is very controlled, although in fairness these are expensive cars and they don't know me from Adam. There ws a lot of waiting around in the cold - 20 mins of driving takes several hours.
They advertise an "experience" not a driving day and I did "experience" the cars - although not very much of them.
Overall if you are a young or very nervous driver you do experience the cars in a very controlled way, but anybody that can drive or has a car with some horse power would get nothing from it.

I done one of these experiences with a company called "Everyman Racing" a few years ago, also at Dunsfold park, and i ended up having a great time!
For my birthday my wife got me the "Lamborghini Vs Ferrari experience" which consisted off :
• Welcome, Introduction and Safety Briefing
• 2 laps demonstration with instructor driving performance training car
• 4 laps driving a Lamborghini Gallardo or Murcielago
• 4 laps driving a Ferrari
• Individual Driving Experience Certificate to finish
We signed in, paid a bit extra to upgrade the insurance (they've got you, haven't they) and then me and another guy were shown round the circuit in a VXR8 and shown where to brake and which lines to take etc.
I went in the lambo first, the instructor was alright and let me enjoy it, overtook a few cars, but it was braking and accelerating when he said so, and he would let you hear it if he didn't agree, though there were no dual controls fortunately.
And then i drove my dreamcar, the Ferrari 458, and omg what a car!!
The instructor was much nicer, and after leaving the pit he asked me what i do for a living, just as we're coming past this ambulance car parked up on the side of the track, so i said i normally drive those, to which he replied "ahh so you're advanced driver then, well, show me what you've got".
And i did, i really enjoyed the 458, it's such a magnificent machine. We kept overtaking all the other cars, and even when i thought i was going too fast and looked at him, he just told me to keep going. He didn't tell me to slow down or anything, he actually let me enjoy myself which i was really impressed with.
It was such a thrill. And even the instructor said he thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Got a few nice photo's afterwards as well, so it think it really depends on which company you're with and there seem to be so many different ones these days.
I really enjoyed it and will probably do it again at some stage.

I've done a few single seater days and one Lambo experience plus a few VXR track days a few years ago.
Although I was so looking for to driving the Lambo, the whole thing was over to quick, I couldn't push on and the wing mirrors were turned for the instructor.
Whereas the single seater days were amazing. Great fun, was able to push and overtake and really enjoyed it.
Also the VXr days were also great fun. OK its "only" driving fast VX's but you were able to give the cars some stick, they had proper BTCC drivers to give you a proper fast lap and they had the VXR8's there.
I woldnt bother with another "supercar" one, but would sign up for more single seater days and vxr ones too.
Ive got a drift day later in the year just for giggles. I cant do worse than I did when trying out hovercrafting recently

Did a rally day a long time ago somewhere near leicester , 206 gti, polo gti and a tommi makkinen evo. They built up my skills on the hatchbacks and then let me have a go in the EVO.
The EVO had dual controls as the instructor applied the brakes just as I turned in to a 90 degree right, the bonnet dipped, wheels locked and we went slithering off the track. I had a bit of a rant at him about it to the effect of "if you cant leave your brake pedal alone then we should return to the pits now" he apologised and then said "ok go for it" I then drove it like I stole it, untidy but fast - my report reads something like "Loads of Power Loads of Noise - AVE IT"
The best experience I have done is the Caterhams at Silverstone, instructor was brilliant and he even did a donut as we left the "pits" area as I was recording it with a cam corder. The instructor let me really push the little caterham all the way through the rev range and the gears I had an absolute hoot overtaking the 355's which were out on track, and getting carrying so much speed through the corners was brilliant on the main straight the target was to hit the rev limiter in top gear before you went under the bridge - challenge acepted and accomplished every time
I also did an XR2i and single seat day ats brands hatch, which was good but I got black flagged for staying out an extra lap oops.

Full day off peak voucher looks to be £864. Wonder if you can buy now and use next year?
PalmerSport say...All our vouchers are valid for exactly one year from the date of purchase.
For reference, our Off-Peak voucher can only be redeemed against events in November, December and March.
If you had an Off-Peak voucher, but wanted to attend in the Summer, you would be required to pay an upgrade fee (varying depending on date).
Be wary about booking a winter day - any ice at Silverstone can be very slow to clear - I had two days cancelled due to still being icy at 1pm. Long way to go to not do anything much.
Fantastic day out when it came together though - and then I had a call from Mr Palmer about a problems I had - I had booked the day in September, they had cancelled due to technical issue, rearranged twice more AND cancelled due to ice, so he gave me my money back.
Great day, and proven great customer support

Try 6th Gear

I did the Supercar treble at Blyton Park and there were no limits, the instructors kept encouraging me to go faster and faster, brilliant VFM.
I did the 6th gear one and thought it was diabolical, I drove a F360 which had been a dream for me and the guy wouldn't let me go above 4000RPM so basically pointless, we'd been at Bedford all morning in my Boxster & my mate's Vantage and this was slower and more annoyin that the journey home on the M1. Never again. The Palmer Spor day is the one to do.http://www.6thgearexperience.com/supercar-driving-...

Porsche driving centre at Silverstone is the place to go IMHO if you just want a bit of a tool around with a nice crowd, good instructors and a decent lunch.
Its worth it for the ice hill and kick plate alone IME. I have done GT3 and 2 Evo and also 911. Wife has done Macan half day. No limits, no stupid gear changes etc. We will be back early next year.
