I bought a new MC Auto Shift April 2014 Its just awesome, it just does everything.
I drove both MC Shift and Autoshift, Yes the MC shift was Amazing when on full chat but when in town etc it became more uncomfortable.
With the newer MC Autoshifts this suited what I was after perfectly all the fun of the MC but with a smoother round town experience.
I understand how the MC shift works but whats the advantage .. quicker shifts I assume? my M5 is amazingly quick on full sports settingI drove both MC Shift and Autoshift, Yes the MC shift was Amazing when on full chat but when in town etc it became more uncomfortable.

Plenty on threads discussing this already have a search.
The auto and the MC shift are different cars for different needs. I tried both and the drivers involvement with the MC shift was just another level. It's a bloody event every time I get in to my MC shift and that sound with the sport button pressed just can't be matched. I may get slated for this but one of my mates popped over in his Aventador the other evening and took me for a spin and I thought my MCS sounded better than his Aventador with a sports exhaust!
The Auto (with MC software) opens the exhaust valves over 3500 RPM but the MC shift opens the valves as soon as you press the SPORT button. This means you have a beautiful exhaust burble as you strut around town with the sound bouncing off buildings as you drive by - it's something that just can't be explained until you hear it yourself
Yes you could get an after market exhaust to make the auto sound like an MC shift but I like my cars to have a proper warranty so would not mess with an OEM exhaust system IMHO.
The MC shift is a very special car and for sure a future classic and with 2009 cars with reasonable mileage just under £50k these are a bloody bargain IMHO.

Totally agree - my neighbours didn't like the Aventador (with Sports exhaust) - but they hated the MC Stradale!Edited by AMDB9 on Thursday 12th November 12:36

So they are offering you £12k off a factory order. I guess first thing you need to do is spec your own car and take £12k off and see how close to £80k you get. For me black on black as very tedious but it's not for me...
That's the idea .. not sure what my perfect colour combo is, quite like the idea of black exterior with tan interiorJonny TVR said:

I keep looking at the stradale and thinking should I stretch to get oneIt's gone now.......
And based on the type of driving you mentioned.... it'd have to be the MC-shift......in a Strad'!
Hi J
Colour combinations give other 'good problems to have'... There are a few other interior variables.. Headlining, Carpets, Stitching , door/ dash inserts... which in different combinations produce radically different results from street racer to luxury GT.
I was not in a position to buy new and it took 6 months to find a combination that hits the spot.
I found one with : Exterior Nero Carbonio (A nice metallic black). Seats and doors in Avorio (Kind of ivory with black stiching) Black alancatra headlining (particularly like that), Black carpets and Black piano wood inserts on dash and doors.. I think it looks fab.
Then you have the wheel colour choices ... and then caliper colours... Endless combinations..
The dealers always advised against red leather as its a difficult colour to sell on..

If you can - you'll not regret it. I'd personally stay clear of the 2 seater - if you can stretch to a 4 seater - you'll find it easier to sell when the time is right.......
Just the engine noise is worth every penny - and will overcome any shortcomings that you may find - and you'll only know what they are when you buy one! If there was something that was so bad (my car was my daily driver) - I would happily share. There isn't - the only minor gripe that I have is the citroen Sat Nav - why did they do that (other than than history....) - but really - if you can - just do it!
A
Ditto what everyone has said.
I have an MC shift and I found it a much more interesting and involving drive.
There are a few differences.
The MC shift has the valves open all the time so it is a lot louder than the auto.
Because it doesn't have the auto box the weight distribution is better as well.
I have the Sportline with sports pack which has the stradale springs and is 10mm lower than standard.
For me it is a great practical car (easily sits 4 adults comfortably) the boot is a good enough size, but I feel great driving it and it is an occasion every single time.
I find I take it out more than my Noble! And that is really saying something.

You guys must be much better drivers than me for the front/rear axle weight variance to be noticeable. It's like saying you can feel the superior drive of your car having a full tank of fuel rather than being half fuel as the weight impact is the same as the marketing BS that Maserati are stating on the gearbox location of the MC shift.
Sure the gearboxes are different and we have our preferences but this impact is almost immeasurable. I also find it strange how many of these threads boil down to exhaust noise rather than driving when the former is something easily addressed in the aftermarket for those that are bothered by it. I've never found the exhaust noise of my GTS Auto to be lacking in manual sport mode but if I did there are plenty of ways of dealing with it. I always advise people to experience both gearboxes through driving the cars as the right one is normally obvious afterwards for most.

Agreed - all Maseratis GT's sound great - including the 4.3 - it's one of the greatest V8's off all time!Sure the gearboxes are different and we have our preferences but this impact is almost immeasurable. With regards to the weight - options specified (typically) have a greater impact on weight distribution than the gearbox - but as EC2 says it has no meaningful bearing!
I never used my Maserati as my "sports" car as I had other options - but was used as my daily driver and the odd jaunt to Europe, which it did with aplomb! These cars just work.

The MC Autoshift as of My2014 has the change to the downshifts and Sport button change that the MC Shift has.
The change comes between then with the speed of the change of the MC Shift which is emmence but really can only be enjoyed when on full chat.
Please make sure you are comparing a MC Autoshift rather than a Auto as these are now different cars.
Basically 5 different varients
Auto
Auto with MC Software
MC Autoshift (MY2014- current)
MC Shift
MC Stradale

So the new MC autoshift - are the valves open as soon as you press SPORT as per the MC shift? The auto and the MC shift are different cars for different needs. So based on all that .. if you are getting a 2015 car why would you go for the MC shift over the MC Auto? I thought that I had it all worked out! now I'm confused again!!
Please go and drive the MC shift and tell us which you are going for. Both great cars but very different.I think we have all confused you but as you are buying new and have driven the MC Auto, there is only one more car to drive before deciding but you can't choose listening to us droning on!
