So based on all that .. if you are getting a 2015 car why would you go for the MC shift over the MC Auto? I thought that I had it all worked out! now I'm confused again!!
Not just for the sound but also the driver involvement and experience. You won't understand until you try both one after the other You may hate the MC Shift or you may love it. AMDB9 said:

Correct only you can make that decision by driving them all.My point is that most people think the Auto is like its always been since 2008 but no since 2014 they have taken a lot of the MC Shift characteristics and added them.

With regards to the noise you can buy a little box that allows you to open and close the exhaust valves at will for not a lot of money. I've got one. Haven't fitted it yet though. Removes the MC vs auto noise argument from the decision making process.
......and voids any warranty you may have in the process...a warranty which IMHO is vital on a car like this.AMDB9 said:
Depends on the age of the car. Once my car is out of its five year extended warranty I might have one. Allows you to have the valves open in normal mode and closed in sport. Sometimes either might suit. Personally if it's cold and/or wet I don't like using sport due to the MSP retardation.Edited by EC2 on Tuesday 24th November 14:10

I'm also considering swapping my M5 for a GT but can I just check that my understanding is correct that the MC Shift has no auto option and you can only change gear with the paddles?
If so I think I need an auto (everyday commuting car)
Cheers,
Bryn.
No, the MC-shift has a full Auto setting, bit in all honesty it's not great, not like a proper Auto, or the MC Auto shift. I rarely used it, was told it will increase clutch wear as well leaving it in that setting. If so I think I need an auto (everyday commuting car)

Thanks for that. Does that apply to pre-2012 cars which I will be looking at as I understand the gearboxes changed over time? Would a 2009-11 MC Shift have a full auto mode for example?Cheers,
Bryn.
