Test drove an MC auto. Not as quick as my M5 but the sense of occasion was incredible and the noise. Been offered their demonstrator which they have just got .. only 60 miles on the clock. List with the options is 97K and they offered it me at £80K which is 17% off list. Tempted but also like the idea of ordering to my spec and going to Italy to collect. Intend to do 10k a year and keep for 2 years and move on. What kind of depreciation do you think I can expect? is this a good deal and am I right to go auto route?

A saving or circa 20 grand is a lot of trips to Italy!
However, it would always have to be the MC shift for me, rather than the auto, but of course that's purely a personal thing.
A Hell of a car for 80K,depreciation will be no worse than the M5, and they seem to hit a level where they stay eventually. There is however, a big, big spread between trade and retail on these things, so if you're thinking of keeping it a couple of years, getting out via a private sale with say 6 month warranty still on it will give you and the next buyer the best return.
Lovely cars.

thanks sjc. I was thinking MC shift until I chatted with the dealer. Can't really see why you would want the MC shift now or have they done a sale pitch on me?

I had an Auto too and really enjoyed it. Great noise as you say. Test drove an MC before too but the Auto made more sense for London traffic which is unfortunately where I spend a lot of time.

I bought an almost new (at the time) 6 month old car from a main dealer for £75ish and the car lost just under £20k for me in 2 and a bit year when I px'd it with the same group for a different car. I think that the used values since then have actually gone up which is a shame!

Had a GT for 6 months then traded up to Stradale after speaking to a couple of helpfully people on here.

Lovely cars reliable, a real sense of occasion and an exhaust note that sounds like you are driving with the gods.

Any questions pls ask

Do it !

Hi J

I've had my GT for 18 months and it is the most sublime car. I'd always advise the auto box, having tried both (its a very personal thing) , though all ths MC nomenclature is a bit confusing.. I think the new Sport has MC Auto where as before 2012 it was MC shift (Robotised) or Auto..

There are some nuances on the styling which you might prefer if you spec it yourself.. I think the chrome line (option on the sport) looks better than the shadow line.. more elegant..

Driving around is a pleasure... people seem drawn to it and always say pleasant things.. women adore them..
I took mine south last summer and ended up in Corsica...3000 mile round trip... just brilliant to live with and fantastic long distance ... living up to its name.. See if you can dig out Harry Metcalfe's review..

You will not regret it..

I bought a dealers new stock car in June, after a back to back test drive against a 911. The 911 and GT are very different cars but the GT was a no brainer for me! The sense of presence and engine note are a natural high for any petrol head even when not in Sport mode.

It's supremely comfortable and surprisingly not that bad on fuel on long journeys. We did a tour from Buckinghamshire upto the Highlands and Isle of Skye in September and averaged 25 MPG over 1600 miles in a week.

I also got a good deal but not quite as good as the one you have been offered, so as long as it's not pink with tan seats, I'd go for the stock car or wait for the new Afieri

I'm also on the look out for one to replace my V8V.

If you haven't already, test drive an MC Shift. The Auto is good for an auto, but as an interactive experience the MC Shift gets the nod for me. Crisper in use and you have to drive it. I doubt town driving would be an issue as it's a doddle to drive slowly. Running costs likely to be more as you have a clutch to cover, but they apparently last 20k-30k miles at least.

Spec and colours really make a difference to the way they look and feel, so have a good look round.

Depreciation? Sports are now starting at around 60k. Those cars are approaching 3yrs old. A well spec'd 2011 S I looked at sold for mid-50s recently and the cheapest S models are mid-40s (and 6yrs old). No real reason to think that sort of curve will change. (I'm not looking at 4.2s and don't think they'll fair anywhere near as well).

The new version is due out in a year or two I believe. Whether it really moves the game on, who knows. The current car drives very nicely for such a big car, and Maserati's recent track record on new models is a bit...meh....to me. So maybe prices will hold firmish (but they will drop).

You have to own one once and the 4.7L engine is one of the finest engines ever produced. It looks stunning, in an understated way (in the right colour). Yes it's a little long in the tooth now, but you won't regret it ( other than the SatNav) which is a disgrace!) but you learn to live with it!

Engine to die for, exhaust note to die for, not as flashy as Ferrari or Lamborhini, has four seats and reall does the GT thing remarkably well.......

So many variants to choose from, my preferences were:
MC sport line every time
MC Stradale 4 seater
No skyhook suspension
No auto - MC shift works well.
Don't go for black wheels - keep them silver or grey.....
De chrome if you can

I agree with all of this, try the auto and MC, it had to be the MC for me once i had tried a couple of different cars. As for the noise, i have never heard a sweeter engine/exhaust note on a car.

We have an auto and love it smile Going to test drive a Tesla today but it has big shoes to fill to replace the GT, no matter how financially attractive they are as a company car.

Thank you all for your time in replying and some really good points. I will be doing it however the only question is MC shift or MC Auto. Really stuck on this one. The deal I have is with an auto and they don't have a demonstrator MC shift. May have to wait and find a dealer with an MC shift when I'm out and about.

Very nice cars & good value I think to (When compared to a Aston DB9 or Bentley). They sound incredible, seat 4 adults comfortably and have an ok boot. Great car.

Only downside is the infotainment system is very dated. Other than that, great car! Buy one! Ask the dealer what deal they would give you if you order a new car (May be worth calling a couple dealers to see what they'd offer). I was offered something similar on a new car.

I have a 2011 auto 4.7 and love it. Personally I think that the MC automated clutch is a very active gearbox in the wrong car, fine in a balls out mid engined screamer but not in a GT. That is borne out in sales in the last 3/4 years which are now largely auto.

You have been able to get £8-10k off a factory order GranTurismo for a long time and, of course, a factory order might have a lower spec than the demo car which would close the price gap too. Is that deal for a car that is already registered? You also need to look at warranty start date as it might have been a few months ago even if the car is unregistered.

It all depends what colour options you want as, for me, I enjoyed choosing all the various paint, leather, stitching, dash, carpets, headliner etc etc.

As for price a three year old one on 30k miles trades in the low fifties.

I bought a new MC Auto Shift April 2014 Its just awesome, it just does everything.
I drove both MC Shift and Autoshift, Yes the MC shift was Amazing when on full chat but when in town etc it became more uncomfortable.
With the newer MC Autoshifts this suited what I was after perfectly all the fun of the MC but with a smoother round town experience.

They offered £85K on the same specified car (list £97K) as the demo at £80K. The demo is registered only a month ago with 60+ miles on. Its black inside and out with red stitching and logo, red calipers and anthracite neptunes .. looks very good
