Having owned none. So looking purely from a passion and enthusiast point of view. The two Ferrari's I'd like to own are the 308 GT4 and the Mondial coupe. Regardless of money. I'm 35 so not sure they tally with either era really.
Both fun, quirky and usable classics.

The GT4 has plenty of soul, with some interesting 60's/70's touches. The brushed metal instrument panel is quite special, and carbs rule smile

The 3.2 Mondial is solid fun motoring, but personally I would go T Coupe all day. It's so good at crossing long distances in relative comfort, and you will arrive in Cannes a little bit quicker than the 355 due to one less fuel stop wink if you are concerned about running to a stopwatch wink

I like the 355 too, they all have their own personality smile and the pleasure is in choosing and enjoying whatever suits your own needs.

The F355 is probably the MODERN Ferrari which most epitomises the values that made the brand famous. It's beautiful, sounds utterly wonderful, involving in a way which the modern cars will simply never be, was FAST and handled fantastically (when it came out) and immediate and visceral too. Commercially too, it was the car that kinda saved Ferrari.

The only thing it lacks is racing pedigree but then everything does from the modern era. The 250SWB has that pedigree to add to the same traits as the 355 so I suppose it edges it as the BEST.

Also important is that both these cars and even the 355 was Ferrari when Ferrari's were still glamorous and sexy - when they were French Riviera - not Alderly Edge/Chigwell...


People who will cite the modern cars (Speciales'/GTO's/LaFerraris) value performance over mechanical transparency and connection and I'd hazard to say simply haven't spent enough time in the older car and/or want a machine to drive for them. Horses for courses I suppose.

If I had to pick one Ferrari out of the lot though it'd be the F50 which is a little extreme to be the "best" but is, alongside the CGT the most exciting driving experience I've ever had. (Never driven a 250LM though...).
