So having watched the Chris Harris video I found myself loving all of the cars in equal measure. I used to be a die-hard Porsche fanboy and in the past would not allow myself to appreciate other marques to the same degree. Luckily I am all growed-up now and while I still love Porsches, I totally get other marques and their qualities.

So much so, that I was fortunate enough to purchase an F430 Scuderia a year ago while actually looking for a 997 GT3. I also am super fortunate enough to have a GT3 RS coming in April. To cap it all, I saw a McLaren 570S in person 2 weeks back and I really, really like it. So within the realms of what is affordable for me, my "Junior Holy Trinity" is:

F430 Scud
991 GT3RS
McLaren 570S

Hopefully by April 2016 I will be 2/3 of the way there and while not hyper cars they will do me just fine.

Just for fun, and without wishing to upset anyone, what would yours be????????
If you are used to 430scud and 991RS prices I'd have thought a McLaren 675LT or at least a used 650S as they are the same money as a new 570S and IME a lot better!

Test drove the 991 GT3 RS a few weeks ago - what a machine !
Wouldn't own one as a road car by any stretch of the imagination, but for a track toy, sign me up!

Why not just buy one 'senior' car rather than 3 'junior' cars?

2) 550 Maranello, modified to a car I think Ferrari forgot to make, a 550 GTO/Scuderia/Stradale. The idea is in my head and it's awesome.

That would be a 550 WSR then?

Wonderful Choice. Love the early cars with the tiny bumpers.

Totally agree, had a Corgi model as a kid and loved it. I think they also made it in some nice lairy colours.

LT not available where I live, all sold and I have only seen one for sale at a pretty high price. Plenty of 650s but I don't really like the front, to my eyes the 570 is nicer.

Excellent point, once I have run the Scud and RS for a while, instead of adding to these I could see what selling both would realise and what I could buy instead by adding some more to the pot. If I am anywhere near a Carrera GT or a Singer, I can see this happening. So many cars, so little time..

Are we talking in theory or reality?
the 991RS is all sold & trading at a premium same as the LT, but then you know that already wink
That's why I thought "in theory" the LT is a better bet than the 570S which is a lot slower, selling at list and will only depreciate.
The front end look is subject I know, getting past that the 650 is a lot better car
So "in reality" the used 650 is a better buy than the new 570, it is faster, more capable and will depreciate less.

Oh yes, certainly an ownership experience worth a try.

It really makes me cringe too. It's just awful.
I agree, it's a terrible term, who first used it in relation to a trio of (supposedly the ultimate) cars??

No, because all it really is is a 550 with sport seats, racing harness', roll bar and slightly stiffer suspension...you could order one exactly like it.

I'm talking significant changes, much lighter, different front/rear bumper, bonnet, more power etc. Also noise change a la GTO (6-1 manifolds does the trick).

This is getting the right idea, minus the massive wing of course...

There is a LOT of weight in 550's that easily to get rid off. Big power to be made too, without opening the engine. All I need now is the car and some money to realize it...

EVO article is gone but I think it's mostly here:

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/28156-ferrari-550lm.htm...

ES motorsport nearly got it right, but several things I don't like. Big wing, wheels where pretty hideous made worse by terrible offset, and it just looked a bit half arsed. For me it would be as if Ferrari made it themselves, decent fit/finish etc.

Some more of the ''550 LM'', and showing it's poor fit/finish (imo)

Intake bits? why not make it flush? Wheel offset, cheese grater bonnet...

Terrible wing, hideous offset on the wheels, ride height not ok.

I understand they took parts straight from the prodrive race car but all in all it didn't work out great, it needed more attention paid to it for it to work.

Not playing, can't play. What a term, where did it come from? Puts me off top end sports cars!

Fair enough, you're not the first to make such a statement on this thread. Not sure where the term came from, I have heard it several times and I didn't think before using it. The "Junior" part I believe I heard on a Shmee video but I could be wrong.

The point behind my post was that there will always be halo cars which not many can afford. Rather than be on a downer about this, why not look at your own budget and see what you can get which will give you a great level of enjoyment? It has been interesting for me to see what people have written as their choices. Mine would change depending on my budget at any particular time. I listed what I believe I can afford now and I love driving the Scud, can't wait to get my RS and maybe in the future a 570...or a used 650.

My comment on budget wasn't directed at Woppum by the way, it was a general comment.

In any case, Woppum you have seem to have a formidable garage, not sure where you would go from there smile

I've got an unholy trinity of a diesel Yaris , diesel Astra estate and an MX5 on my drive. Where did I go wrong in life? biggrin

So my three would be the Yaris WRC, John Welsh's Astra rallycross car and the MX5 with Jessica Button in it, top down.

Ok, so I don't like the term either; mainly because it might be a bit disrespectful to God but I reckon He understands (mainly because I'm convinced He's a car enthusiast too!) It also says in the book that because Jesus died on account of us, we can be treated as though we were his brother if we accept him....that means I can choose.....four!

And they would be;

458 Speciale
F12 TDF
675 LT Spider
997 4.0 RS

Because...all the best supercar brands (in my world) are represented, there are closed and open cars, manual and paddle shift, front, rear and mid engined, flat 6, V8, V8 turbo and V12 plus they are all very special cars in their own right. Since we are dreaming here, they would all be bought new because I prefer that to paying 'overs' for a car someone else got to spec and own before I did. On that basis, my 'perfect' four won't happen. frown But the future will be full of brilliant cars (I'm an optimist) so I'm pretty delighted that I've already got one of my perfect four from 2020 and I'm working on some of the others! smile
