i missed out an a stunning silver ultra low mileage 32000 assetto corsa @ meridien modena a few years back... i think it was up for £20k with a proper warranty... expensive, but probably the nicest out there. i can't however remember what flavour box it had.

i can't see how values for these can go anywhere other than upwards... they are surely most iconic example of the car that brought maserati back on the map.

Definitely going to go for the Assetto Corsa, having now driven both.

The gransport felt dull to me in comparison and didn't exude the same kind of class...

Interestingly the new magazine Modern Classics chose the 3200 GT in a group test this month, quite pleasantly surprised at that.

It was up against Jag XKR, Aston DB7, Bentley Conti GT and BMW M6.

That's because its a great car!
There are plenty of people out there (relatively speaking) that know how to look after these now and a well looked after one is a pleasure to own. Considering it seats 4 it is still reasonably sized compared to most of the other cars in that comparison, which I will have to read.

Thanks, it is. There's 20 odd pics on there website. I've owned it since 2001. In two minds about selling.

Great looking car, I think I may have seen it parked at Brands Hatch before, what could replace it?

Thanks. There's a few tweeks which really lift the look of it in my opinion, like the stainless radiator and intercooler grille's, badges and red crackle finish intake. I've done Maserati, Aston, Ferrari which only leaves Lambo really. But not in any rush. Selling gives me enough room to empty my workshop of motorcycles into the garage which means I can now get on with some of my project bikes.

The Lambo is an ich I would love to be able to scrach and somethng I ave thought uie a bit about over the lat year. The newer moels are fantastic bits of kit but for me(purely a personaling)as much s I lik them somethig has been lost.
Thats part of the reasonI bouht the 3200 before it wss possibly too late as for ment ony is it great car but it still has some ld school magic and links to Masrati proper (ish)

Good luck wth the ale nd what ever replaces it in the future!

Well, just to round off the thread; Next week I collect a lovely Silver 3200 Assetto Corsa GTA.

And not a dodgy side skirt in sight!

Well, I've had the car for about 2 days now and I'm loving it!

Picked the car up from another member who could not have been better to deal with.

I did a 5.5 hour drive back, and was comfortable apart from my feet on the pedal box after a while, pedal box is cramped and at a weird angle.

I love the sense of occasion and have been impressed by how stable and planted the car feels on the motorway.

Outside of the motorway I've spent half of my time at varying degrees of yaw angle!

Exiting the M6 toll in Sport was the first time, splayed 45 degree sideways despite accelerating from roll and in a straight line.

I then took my father up the road once home, and it was cold and wet. When trying to demonstrate the on boost acceleration on the bypass you can imagine she got a bit squirrely quite a few times to say the least!

So, I absolutely love it! Sounds great as it has straight through rear pipes on an otherwise standard exhaust.

It's a very raw and rewarding car to drive!

I have been teetering round the corners a bit as I get used to it - a hot hatch was trying to goad me the other night when it was 2 degrees c and wet - I did't take the bait after 5 hours of driving, and concious that this car needs respect.

I've driven lots of on paper quicker cars, but this feels like pretty much most lairy car I have driven.

I think other road users will have no idea how hard and with how much concentration you need to drive this thing quickly.

Makes me smile

I've had a number of masers, from a gold 3200GT (y467 BRD, if you have it, I want to buy it back), thru various 4200gt and spyders, to a GS and several QPs. Found them all excellent cars, and to be honest, only ever had routine servicing, a few tyres, and a radio that went awol (and Maserati replaced under warranty). Other than that bulletproof. Love the 3200 AS, but the gearbox would be my issue, very old school. Prefer the GS semi auto, which as I remember was the same unit as in either 599 or 430, so very capable. Clutches haven't been an issue for me on any of them, nor the ferraris, but I think sometimes it's down to driving style and the typical use of the car, I don't do traffic as I work from home, so my use is much lighter and much less in lower gears than maybe a commuter would face

All in all, either way you go, you get a very special car and a big smile on your face every time you drive it

Yep, those tyres get overwhelmed quite easily, and the traction control is very old now so not so quick as to be able to hold it! You will learn how to adjust your style to take it into account, just takes a little practice (and a few changes of pants no doubt), I overtook a bus once doing a complete 360 in the wet!, and actually saw the driver in my rear view clapping because I managed somehow to catch it and carry on! Just glad it was a very wide road with nothing coming!

It has some Nokian Tyres on the back, plenty of tread, but probably a few years old, and not the greatest tyre when new no doubt. And then Falkens on the front.

I don't think its done many miles at all on them, but they might be 4-5 years old.

I shall be treating her to a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 - should tame the beast a little!

In fairness it's not too bad on the current boots if it's nice and dry, but you still need to have your wits about you.
