My thoughts exactly; I heard that social media presence have a scoring factor within Ford's criteria as to who gets a build?!

No doubt the guy is a petrol head but it would be a shame (if it's true), in my eyes, if the number of YouTube/IG followers had a direct impact on the likelihood of you getting a GT.

Regardless, what a piece of machinery. The rear aero, cut-aways and tunnels etc. at the back of the GT are nothing short of astoundingly good-looking.

Based on my understanding there's a huge variety of criteria on which they will allocate cars, and the most important of those is people they know are going to drive the car and use it the way they want. It's up to then to define what that is but I'm pretty sure road trips, track days, car events, and making tonnes of YouTube videos is pretty close to their target.

GT40 owners, mk2 GT owners, some collectors, some race drivers, some social influencers, there will no doubt be a big variety in who they allocate to and given what they've said publicly it would have been foolish of me not to apply.

Hi Tim surprised you answered ....

Like it or not its the world in which we now live,i still cant get my head around the number of "views" if that's the correct word you guys get, your car (should you get one) will give more free advertising and media exposure to ford than any magazine and lately any TV programme, my question would be why wouldn't you give him a car.

I am also on the list with little chance of getting a car but for a bit of fun in my application I attached a short video titled "this is why I need a new Ford GT" of me in the 12c leaving my mate in his GT for dead ...

I have a suspicion that they may make quite a few more cars than people expect...

Application form only says they'll make a MINIMUM of 150 cars in 2017 and the same MINIMUM 150 cars in 2018

With the number of applicants they've had the Ford bean counters will be rubbing their hands and pushing for [many] more cars to be built than applicants think.

I also half expect that they might follow the McLaren 675LT scenario and follow on with a Spider* version...as Ferrari have also done with their Laffa.

  • Had they have kept the original Ford GT door design they wouldn't have been able to do a Spider version, but as they've changed the doors and have a CF tub it should be pretty easy(?)

The cars are built by a Canadian company for Ford and as such the production is limited to what they can achieve, that's a maximum of 250 cars a year.

Hey Shmee, good luck with the application. I just found it funny that used your YouTube channel to lobby Ford to allocate you a car. But hey, if it works then go for it. Most others would if they were in a similar situation.

Did you not try the same trick with Porsche for a GT3 RS?

Shmee, I'm not saying you're wrong as your clearly more in the know than I am, but if there's an absolute max production limit of 250 cars per year then Ford would probably have chosen to use that phrase.

Press releases are always VERY carefully worded and the way I read it they've chosen to say MINIMUM of 150 cars per year to give the impression of limited supply and exclusivity whilst actually leaving the door open for them to make as many as they want if they chose to.

We'll know in a year or two for sure....

If you get chosen ask them to confirm the maximum number of cars they'll be producing and whether cars will be numbered.

I wouldn't say I used my YouTube channel; they asked you to link to your social pages on the application form so I did exactly that as the next person will have done. In fact I haven't even mentioned that I applied until more than 2 months after doing so.

I made a video driving the GT3 RS making a reference along the lines of "If Porsche were to offer me an allocation for the GT3 RS I would jump at it immediately" - but nothing came of it, you never know! I'd be a fool if I didn't try; building this audience has been a decade of work and I'm not going to waste the perks that might come of it.

Having spent the weekend with the entire team at Le Mans I know a little bit more about the product cycle than I'm at liberty to say yet, but the car is exceptionally exciting and I'm obviously crossing every single thing that I'll be lucky enough to own one and use it as they intend.

I don't think it's a secret that Multimatic can build a max of 250 cars a year for the 4.5 year project; realistically it's around 1,125 cars that will roll out but at the moment they are only promising 500 via the application process.

1,125 is a more realistic number if applicants are as numerous as reported, many of whom are likely to be speculators when people erroneously quote that ONLY 150 cars will be built each year.

In reality to stay within the rules for that class, they only have to make a car a week for the 2 years that they committed to race. However just over 100 cars worldwide is going to end up with no one ever seeing one.

It's going to be a balance. As Shmee says, the application process was stated to be for the 'first' 500 cars, so lets just assume the total production will be over that. How much over is what a lot of people have their fingers crossed over!

There's still a good part of the 90 days answer time left for us all to sweat....

Anyway there's a new Focus RS in my garage now, and that takes my mind off it... smile
