What would you buy for keeps?
Discussion
I have 2 month old twin boys and they got me thinking about having something to give them when they turn 21. I thought a car would be great. Something I bought now that I could enjoy, but keep for 21 years. Which 2 cars would you buy - let's say 150k budget. There is the option of buying just one now and a second one in a few years if spending more makes sense.
At £150k a 12C spider. Ahead of its time, modern and all round accomplished car that will stand mileage and being driven and will be collectable in 20 years time due to small production numbers.
My boy is 9 and already eyeing up the 650S spider but thankfully is not remotely interested in the F355GTS manual

With that budget, I would probably get a LHD Ferrari 550 and a LHD 996.1 GT3 - hopefully by the time they are allowed to drive one is still allowed to drive these types of cars on the road.
Those 2 cars should keep a car person very happy when everybody else drives double-clutch, turbo, electronic this and that cars and tells the mates down the pub that his car does 0-60 in a second

If there were proper lads they'd crash it as they learn the ropes and the limits, so why give them something so nice as previous suggestions?
They'd probably not appreciate something from this era either, you tend to appreciate the best cars when you are 13 onwards. Hence why i like the Countach but not the Muira when I was 21. If you see what I mean.

Sadly agree with camlet in 20 years time I doubt the old cars will be allowed in the roads or the cities .........will be a memory so USE them NOW ...hence have the new X from Tesla ....... a future Classic for sure ............that you will be able to drive .... maybe a 430 Challenge for 50k to use on special days on track so they can feel what slow petrol cars were like ...

This is very valid point, I would not be letting any 21 year old drive such a rare beautiful car, they will crash it most probably due to lack of driving experience, better they start of in a good hot hatch like a Golf GTI.They'd probably not appreciate something from this era either, you tend to appreciate the best cars when you are 13 onwards. The cars you are talking about will be gold mines in 20 odd years, I'm pretty sure you will be selling it instead to make a huge profit.
Wow wish my Dad gave me a Diablo or Countash or 911 or F355 when I was 21 though!

What about an Aston? Like a first gen Vanquish S, or a DBS in James Bond spec? I could drive either for the next 20 years :-)
DBS is a good shout in JB spec, the film link would help bridge the time lapse to work for both parties. A 21yr old now would hopefully now see the beauty in an old DB shown in the last current Bond film. Gassing Station | Supercar General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
