Without this becoming a debate on CCMs vs steels I'd like to hear what brake pads are favoured by those who rely on steel disks. I have a 612 OTO with CCMs that gets taken out on sunny days, a 997 4S with steels as my daily, and an F430 with steels for weekend and trackday fun. I know there are some that will say that steels are no good but I maintain that with upgraded fluid, braided lines and proper pads they do a great job and are a helluva lot cheaper to replace if you track the car regularly.

I'm lucky enough to have a 4 post lift at home and I 'fiddle' with the 430 between track days. I am currently running Pagid RS-29s (http://www.brakes-pads-discs.co.uk/pagid/products/rs29-yellow-ceramic-based.php) which are superb on the track (no fade - no really) but squeal when on the road - they just never get enough heat in them at road speeds. Now I probably shouldn't care but it's embarrassing when pulling up at a stop light to a chorus of squeals. I thought of switching them to milder pads between track days but then I'd have to bed them in each time to replace the material on the rotors. Not sure I want to have to do that so I'm looking for insights from anyone who has tried different pads on their cars.

What have you tried, have you tracked with them, do they squeal on the road? Should I just embrace the squealing with pride and a smile that says "Ye ye - you see these are race pads smile"

The only pads that I can guarantee no noise with are OEM, which aren't much cop on track.

You might want to try and find the really thick copper coloured goo that comes with the OEM pads. It is much, much thicker than copper grease and doesn't wash out.
