Ok what do YOU think won't depreciate? I think a Diablo a 599 and maybe a 12C amongst others are limited depreciation with a potential upside. I am buying to own and buying with cash but I am not rich enough to not worry about resale.......

Not a super car but a 991 GT3 could hit the spot, quick enough for most and relatively cost effective to run vs. the others you're looking at? Got to be a brightly coloured one out there somewhere to tickle your fancy at £120k+

The Diablo and 599 could easily be had for £50k and £85k respectively three years ago. I was offered a 599 as low as £70k at one point (2012-13).

If you are confident the Brexit bull***t is not going to mess things up and we go back to or even below the level of three years ago (cue howls of protest from owners) then you are a brave man.

That's the 599 that has caught my eye! It looks great.

599 is a good choice. At present I cannot see a 599 loosing you anything. If you do decide. Im happy to answer questions on what to look out for. PM me if you like.

I will be selling a perfect set of HGTE wheels with good tyres soon. Also a set of monolithic wheels with good tyres.

Hi,
I saw you at the recent Goodwood breakfast - I was also in the convoy from the BP garage, your car looked lovely, I saw the badge on the back and obviously knew it was you.

That does like nice - I had been looking at it myself for a few days. I just kept thinking that for just a little bit more I could get a 650 and then it gets confusing.
Thank you my friend! Were you in your DB9 - if so what colour was it? It was a great drive to Goodwood with all those cars and amazing roads.

How goes your hunt? I test drove a 12c on Friday and ended up putting down a deposit. I highly recommend you try one. Bargain price for what you're getting and so much better in every way in the flesh... smile

PS Were you at Burghley yesterday by the way?

Thankyou, that's very kind. If I go with a 599 I will definitely be in touch.

Hi,
Yes I was in the DB9 at Goodwood, it is tungsten silver, I was parked up about 10 cars ahead of you at BP before we set off.
Congratulations, which 12C did you buy? I am thinking of going to look at the red spider at Romans, it's strong money though. Looking forward to seeing pictures of your 12C.

No I wasn't at Burghley yesterday, I had other commitments.

I get the feeling you're not necessarily a classic car enthusiast so, discounting anything too old, if you want something that is in contrast to your DB9 and with a chance of being almost depreciation proof I would be looking at;

Diablo or Murcielago
Gallardo Superleggera (or other 2WD limited editions)
Honda NSX-R
Ferrari 430 Scuderia (might be just within budget)

The spider is tempting I have to admit. Have you driven one yet? It'll make your choice a lot easier... biggrin

I put a deposit down on the one at Mclaren Birmingham:

Car looks fantastic. I got mine from Birmingham. Enjoy....

Just returned from a trip into France and the amount of interest shown in the car was phenomenal...all positive too if not ever so slightly embarrassing each time I returned to the car there was one or two people taking pictures.

Hi Simon,
It's Andy from Brands hatch with the Mantis Green 650s spider. Biased I know, but I have to say after owning a fair few Supercars over the years, I think the Mclaren cars are the best I have owned. Both in terms of build quality, style and overall performance. I am seriously blown away by how good the 650s is. Your call but I don't think you will go far wrong if you get a well specced / priced 12c spider. It's also the best of both worlds as there is no compromise or trade off against the coupe.

I couldn't agree more !!!

Was brought up aspiring to own a Ferrari and been fortunate to subsequently own several but the McLaren is a league above.
650s spider versus my beloved 458 spider is no contest, the McLaren just blows it away in every department bar sound and 320k cheaper to boot.

Would never buy another spider without a carbon tub so spoiled we are with the McLaren

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply and thanks for taking the time to show me your car and give me some advice when we met the other month.

I am seriously looking into 12C's at the moment. I am thinking of a spider due to my height- your 650 was lovely and when I sat in it- it felt really special and with the roof off I don't have to worry about headroom - a coupe might be more restrictive.

I was looking at the red 12C at Romans but the brakes don't look like they are ceramic to me? Were they optional? The car is £153k but on the classifieds here there is a 650 spider also in red for only £25k more at McLaren London - decisions and I know so little about them.

I am still trying to narrow down my choices but I am hoping to go looking at some this weekend smile

Ceramics are optional on 12C and very rare as the price was certainly £10k if not more.
They are standard on 650S so you could argue the 650S represents better value potentially.

Personally with a car that is so quick I prefer the extra braking capability the ceramics give for the road. Ceramics can have a tendency to lack feel ie either be on or off but TBH the 650S ones are the best I've ever come across. Extremely well modulated and great with left foot braking.
If you intend to track a lot there is an argument steels will be cheaper

Thanks for the reply, very helpful to know they were only options on the 12C. Whatever I buy I won't be taking it on a track. I just want to enjoy it on the roads, maybe a European trip etc.

If you do buy one Simon you really should take it on the track at least a couple of times. It's the only place where you will truly be able to appreciate how good the car is and find out what it can do. And it's much safer than on a public road.
Good luck with your search, you wont be disappointed with your choice.

I am not sure ceramics will give you better braking performance on the road in the UK (slowish speeds, no big mountain passes with lots of hard downhill braking). Still am a big fan of ceramics, so would always have them if available.
