Hello All

Currently have a 2014 V8 Vantage SSII (paddle shift with hydraulically actuated manual) which I love, but lust after a Lamborghini too.

For the same money, would you :-

1. Sell the V8 Vantage and get a Huracan and have the one car
2. Keep the V8 Vantage and get a 2010 on Gallardo LP (I am drawn towards an LP550-2 E Gear) and run two cars

I am familiar with the twin clutch vs E gear as well and don't mind e gear at all.

I already have a daily which needs to be cheap and cheerful as it gets smashed with tree sap/sun etc everyday and parked on the street, so the above cars would be purely fun cars.

So I guess I am asking from those in the know (that although we know the Huracan is said to be better than a Gallardo) is it actually THAT much better ?

Thanks in advance

Jkay

Hi JKay, good question and very subjective. I had the 570sl which I thought was a fantastic car. However, I now have a Huracan 610 and in every aspect it is a far superior car, it does have the sports exhaust which helps. No doubt there will be lots of alternative opinions along shortly, but to me there is no comparison much as I loved my SL. I've just fitted a set of sottozeros to the Huracan, but they are not yet scrubbed in to directly compare. Happy to respond in more detail on a pm. Cheers.

I prefer the physical thump of the E-Gear G, and have spent some wheel time in a V8V, albeit in Nevada.

Option 2 for me smile

You can only drive 1 car at a time and you have twice the maintenance and running costs with 2 cars when 1 is sitting doing nothing.

Go large or go home - would go with just the Huracan given those choices.
( Says the man with 4 cars, but at least 2 of them have appreciated in value since I bought them, and before anyone says it I'm not including the 650S in those 2. Time will tell with that one )

Thanks for the replies so far. Keen to hear more hopefully.

Sardis cheers PM on its way thank you! So the difference is actually THAT big between the Gallardo and the Huracan, and thats coming from a 570-4 owner. Precisely what I was wondering.

RamboLambo interesting coming from one who owns 4 cars smile.

I guess at the end of the day I don't want to pull up next to a Huracan in a Gallardo, and wish I "had instead".

I've owned lots of super cars over the last few years presently run a 991 Gt3 RS and a 610 Huracan. I've had a race exhaust fitted to the Huracan and it's without doubt one of the best and quickest cars I've ever owned or driven especially cross country.
The gearbox is a revelation, I've not owned an E gear car but if it's anything like the Aventador(which I have owned) gearbox the the H gearbox will be a delight.
Go for it you won't regret it, I'm just ordering my second H.

Really depends on what you want....

The huracan gear box is super fast and smooth.... I think it's boring as a result, and the main reason I haven't changed 'up'.... But the rest of the world loves em ... Really only a factor on track...

Fundamentally the v10 is the same, and tbh the pre LP engine without direct engine has more character and better noise at lower revs...

The gallardo is more analogue... Modern cars are driven by computers .... Anyone saying otherwise is deluded... In my 560-2, I can spin the rears in third in a straight line.... So I drive the car, with my right foot... Not allow a computer to regulate how horses to deploy...

Granted I've not lived with a huracan but I ain't changing mine, so I'd go option 2

As you have a daily driver, I assume the emphasis is on fun. The question here is:

Does technology make a car more or less fun to drive? The huracan is technologically better, but is it more enjoyable when driving?

For me the answer is no but for you it will depend on the values you place on technology, car feedback, involment etc.

if you want a "better" car in the conventional, mainstream, sense of the word, then buy a golf

I am not sure which one of your choices I would pick. How about including an LP640 (or a manual Murcielago) in your list of choices .... doors / V12 and seem to be a relative bargain compared to the Lambos that came before

This is a very good point, although only you can decide how much you'd like to commit to running costs. With regard the the original question, I'm not sure what I'd go with, although the Huracan looks absolutely awesome in the flesh. It'd be a real sight to behold every time the garage door opened...

Exactly that and if it bothers you what others see you driving. 2 very good cars ( with 1 parked in the garage ) or 1 epic one that you are driving.

I had a period where I ran 2 equally great sports cars and ended up amalgamating the funds into 1 supercar

Jesus, don't buy for other people. Buy the car/s you want. Otherwise you'll never really be happy with your choice and you'll be stuck in the "latest is best" loop that some people, who don't really get cars, buy into.

Personally I like multiple cars so I can have different experiences. Buy as many cars as you can and make sure they're different.

Buy the best single car you can. The Vantage and Gallardo aren't sufficiently different to warrant owning both of them, they're both modern GT/supercars. If the Vantage was of 80s vintage, or the Lambo a Silhouette, then the choice would be much more difficult.

Have you considered an F12, or a 650S?

Thank you.

Unfortunately here in Aus the Aventador and F12 are in a totally different price bracket by a lot, around $600k for an F12 , and even more for an Aventador

I guess it's true the Gallardo and V8 Vantage aren't different enough to warrant running both, and it's better to either run the one single great car, or two very different cars.

Although I'll really miss he Aston if it goes, looks like it may have to be the one car, unless I can think of two cars different enough to warrant running both

How about a 997 GT3 Clubsport and the LP-550 (or replace the Aston with an old Aston)
