I am probably wrong on this but the replacement for the Murcielago will be the first car fully designed under Audis influence will it not? Gallardo and Murcielago were both conceived before the Audi purchase.

I guess the reason for my comment was because when the Murcielago was unveiled, the Lambo fans cried into their beer, lamenting the passing of the Diablo, the car they feld was the last real Lamborghini.. and the same when the LP640 is unveiled, and so on..

Yeah...it's always the same when a new 911 is un-veiled!

For me the last true Lamborghini is the 99 Diablo , has 100% Lamborghini spirit . That was important to Ferruchio as the rivalry between him and Enzo is legendary , and both men put spirit into their cars . The horse vs the Bull . Sure the Diablo design had Chrysler influence . But the preliminary design was Gandini 100% Italian a predecessor to the Countach with sharp lines and menacing styling . When original designs were sent to Chysler they soften it up , it was too Countach looking with all the angles and Chrysler felt the Countach had run out of its 40 years dominance , probably due to bad press regarding the Anniversary which they also had an influence in . No way Lamborghini would restyle the ultimate 5000QV into the bulky looking Anniversary . One thing Italians are hot on is style . The Diablo lines were softened rounded edges more sexy than the hairy chested Countach . When Audi took control in 98 orders for the next year 99 were already undertaken , Lamborghini introduced the 99 Open Head Lamp 530 BHP Valve Timing Management System New design dashboard . In 2000 Audi had an input into the design of the new Diablo , the 6.0 litre . No way would Lamborfghini change the front bumper of the 99 model to the 6.0 model . Those lines were gone , the 6.0 litre now sported a thick lip for a front bumper instead of the sexy smile of the 99 Diablo . Last Diablo , the one where Sant Agata had full control over the cars in how they looked . Chrysler had an input into the initial end design of the Diablo and with hindsight it wasn't a bad move , it was more nineties and more sexy and less seventies and less hairy chest medallion . Audi influence continued into the Mercielargo and Gallardo , less emphasis on style , the cars lacked that wow factor . Glad to see they regained control with the Aventador . For me last true 100% spirited Lamborghini . The 1999 Diablo . Hands down .

Yes the LP640/670 is the last true Lamborghini.

At least in my opinion. The older cars have a certain charm and all the drama etc but are too unreliable and not user friendly to a level where I could get any enjoyment, the modern cars loose the true sense and character, so I bought a LP640 a year ago, I love it immensely and use it regularly

Older cars unreliable?
True I believe in relation to the Miura. Countach has been my most reliable Lambo by far. Diablo is better than a Murci. There is just less to go wrong in the older cars. No ECUs on a Countach. Not many on an early Diablo. Lots of stuff to go wrong on a Murci.......

Haha Rocco , thought you might say that mate . Lamborghini made the flush headlights after the pop ups , so that's the last :-)
Early Diablos are the beginning of the last Lamborghinis made . The original design by Gandini was based on the Countach , sharp creases and lines menacing looking . Chrysler at the time owned the company and toned down to a more curvaceous sexy shape , their motive was probably that the 30 year old Countach had run its course , the last addition the anniversary ( under Chrysler ) was a bit of a damp blanket , got bad press , too bulky , oversized intakes etc , this was chryslers attempt at a new model . Lamborghin was always about style first , engine second , drivability last . Chrysler naffed up the Countach , they did the same with the Diablo however it worked because the car was now more 90,s more sexy not the hairy chested medallion the Countach was back in the seventies . When Lamborghini first made cars he knew he could make a strong engine , his tractor experience was to prove useful . So Lamborghin main focus was on design , after all they where Italian , and when up against Enzo and his stylish super cars of the sixties design and style was the important factor . This ethos carried on throughout the Sant Agata factory , it was a legendary battle with Ferrari , Lamborghinis focus was on style passion the wow factor to beat Ferrari , to prove he can make better cars . They used the same engine for 40 years V12 aspirated later fuel injected . They put the Lamborghini spirit into their cars . When Volkwagon Group took over in 1998 Lamborghini already had orders for their 99 model Diablo and were allowed to build them . Audi under the Volkwagon group used the Diablo 99 to release its 6.0 . The front fender change to a bland thick front lip like it had collagen injections . The 99 from fender had a sexy smile and Lamborghini would never authorise such an ugly change of style . Audi's influence continued they ditched the 6.0 made the Mercialago , same bland style no minimal curves minimal lines then introduced the Gallardo on similar lines . The last Lamborghini , with full Lamborghini spirit , still carrying their ethos Style First , V12 rock solid engine second , drivability last . The Diablo 99 model has all three , therefore is the last of the true Lamborghinis .
Although the Aventador looks pretty cool , got all the attributes , back to how Lamborghinis ethos , however nowadays with all the driver aids , 4 wheel drive , it's feels safe . And that's the point of Lamborghini of old . The thrill of the ride , the control of the car knowing full well if you blink you are in the ditch .
That's why , 99SV 530 BHP V12 rear wheel drive is the last true 100% Lamborghini spirited car to come out Sant Agata .

You just tie blocks onto your shoes, like in Indiana Jones.

I know someone who bought a countach 18 months ago and has had several problems in almost as many times he has ventured out with it. Some being, headlights have stopped working twice at night, including the pop up motor part, battery failure, head gasket failure requiring engine out to strip and rebuild, fuses blowing. I use my Murci daily in summer months to the office 60 mile round trip no issues.

Please bear in mind my comment about user friendly, I expect my super cars to propel me at a rate of knots associated with a modern super car experience, safely, I wouldn't expect anyone in a countach to drive the way a Murci can cover ground.
