Is it only me, or do the "techy" pictures give everyone else the horn too!

When you see the goody bits in the flesh you can't help but utter some very choice words. As we are all fellow petrolheads it just boggles the mind. As jonny5 says it would absolutely kill me to drive the car and not have an order in for one.(and it does). A lot of us are very honoured to have the ability to stick say 100K into a supercar. In John Morrison's words at Fridays exchange rate a Veyron was £868K including v.a.t. Now in reality I could sell the house and all of the cars and then rent a house with a very secure garage and go for it.
If someone could guarantee that the Veyron was as good an investment as bricks and mortar then I'd do it. But it is to bigger punt for me.

Just to echo what everyone else has said before - superb story of an unreal experience. What a car to break your double ton duck in too

I am not a huge fan of the Bug either - but as a technical and engineering achievements bow that drivetrain looks like a monster.

Thank you.

Hi

I drove one this morning. The engine is a bit like the one in my MK-IV. Low revving massive torque. Feels a lot different than high revving Ferrari engines. Very fast but at full throttle traction comes on hard and often. Gear box is the best I've ever encountered. Really a GT car not IMO a sports car. Exhaust sounds like a turbine.
You do get pushed back hard. Brakes are great. Very drivable. Clutch doesn't cook in stop and go. Front overhang is short so no problem there. Interior Bentley like.

Pretty ing cool.

If I got one I'd probably wind up modding it a bit. Take off a 1000 lbs. Make it look more like a Speed 8. Paint it green. Work on the exhust note. Put in a bigger speedo...

Can't wait to see that Napolis!
I think the gearbox is the single most important feature of the car, though it doesn't make the headlines. It simply unlocks the entire performance envelope, and allows the driver to ... drive 1000 bhp.
I bet when you get into it, the Veyron would be HUGELY fast, faster than even the figures would suggest. The chassis never feels particularly 'tested'.
Makes me think 'CanAm' cars.

I have a grin from ear to ear just from your words. You don't really know the huge amount of people you have made happy

At this point these are simply random thoughts misty dreams. For the foreseeable future I'm going to enjoy what I've already done.

Very interesting observation. Having driven Can Am cars you've really cut to the heart of it. My MK-IV has 550HP and weighs 2300lbs. With large tires and Le Mans gearing it can get the power down but the Bug is a marvel. The experience is interesting. You defineately feel the TC work. Overall the Bug felt a bit sedan like it's so smooth. After driving it I really came away with vast appreciation for what PF has accomplished with P 4/5. It's a much more (for me) enjoyable car to drive as I feel more "connected" as opposed to sitting on the Concorde during take off. The Bug's engineering is so good that it masks sensation.

As I said above I'm simply thinking random thought at this point. If she had felt more Can Am like (Brutal?) and less Private Jet like I think I would like her more but I understand why they went this way. I LOVED driving my 166 1100 KMS through the 8000 turns of the Historic Targa in the rain but I realize not everyone would...

i personally think the true marvel of this (veyron) car is its ability to perform all kinds of extreme "supercar" feats when reqd (& i do stress EXTREME), BUT...unlike the CGT,Enzo, Mac F1 (GTR), & yes even the Zonda, it can also cocoon you on those days when you just cannot for whatever reason (heavy traffic, weather etc) use its performance fully...i went (2nd time) prepared to be more cynical after my "cooling off" period, i came away even more in awe of the cars capabilities, & trust me i"ve driven / owned most things out there...its bloody wonderfull!!!...yes
