As a relative layman (as in, I'm young, into cars, but will never be considering buying or even driving one of these in the next 15 years) I am just not excited by the Gallardo. It's like the much more boring, sensible alternative to the Murcielago to me, and that hangs over it. So for me it's more in with the Aston V8 vantage and 911 crowd in spite of the price difference and power difference. They are beautiful, in an Audi way, but when you see one it has no wow factor. They tend to be in boring colours, but even in yellow have none of the stun of a Black diablo or Murcielago. And they sound a bit weird.

I have to say I agree with this. I KNOW the Gallardo is an awesome car (and preferred the one I drove to the two murcis i drove) but it still doesnt seem the full fat 'ghini experioonce to em either. am sure that has some impact.

Also - lower entry price coupled to greater dealer network and MUCH MORE work on PR by lamborghini has led to many more speculator buys and 'people who get a car for the summer then change it'. that just didnt happen with the disable....think that makes a difference too. tehre are (relatively) tons of em around

TBH that you would even consider comparing an AMV8 or 911 to a Gallardo shows you need to try driving them

Now I've got a Gallardo Spyder and yes the LP640 is a better car but:
1. it costs an extra £70,000
2. I use my car everyday, the Gallardo is well suited to driving in central London, I'm not so sure about the Murci - it's more an out of town/weekend car

The whole positive aspect of the Gallardo to me is that it's a good deal more sensible than a Diablo/Murcielago, mainly from a viewpoint of the more compact dimensions. Handy in the real world, especially if using the car a lot.

Not everyone wants to be *that* noticed either, driving a bright yellow Lambo Murcielago say. Hence the appeal of something still exotic but more discrete (relatively) like a black Gallardo.

Horses for courses.

The Gallardo still has the most beautiful lines and is still fresh in design and everytime I drive it people just can't stop pointing and smiling... I think thats called wow factor! was thinking about an LP640 but in the end opted to go for the CGT..
