I remember Vic Sawyer's blue Diablo.
I also remember his red Countach prior to that.
I have a picture of it being trailered away from Goodwood after a major mechanical failure. Vic was not amused at the time.
One other memory is of a red Testa Rossa being badly mangled on the track by a yooung guy who had hired it for the weekend.
Obviously, not insured for the track, the marshalls towed it out onto the public roads and dumped it in a ditch, to make it look like a proper road accident. I wonder if he got away with it.

maybe thats what i witnessed, i was young but i remember some heated debate, also remember that things used to get a bit out of hand if it was a nice hot day people skipping the queues etc, it had a really great atmosphere.

love these pics, more pls

I have got hundreds of them. I will have to dig them out and scan them.
Some of the regulars included Vick Sawyer, Barry Martina (Heathmans), Ray Beverley (owned LAM 130 on a Muira SV), Stephen Keen (Muira SV), Huw Dundas (Muira SV & Testa Rossa), Peter Saywell (AOG numbers), plus many of the first F40s, F50s, Diablos etc.
Always remember that pink Countach (LAM 207) and a white one registered 18 5EXY. Pictures on my website, if you have a few hours spare!
Fond memories.

where can i find your pics 360BOY?

Click on the Car pics pages. At last count there were some 45 pages, so put aside a few hours and lots of coffee.

Used to be at Goodwood all spare hours back in the '80s. (Chichester boy)

The one I remember is the Countach with, IIRC, BUL1 12.

Have to dig out some photos.

i drove to the last one mike arranged, can't remember the year? just before goodwood was refurbished, after a 2.5hr drive the marshalls would not let us in, can't remember why, people were furious at the gates it may have been that mike let a lot of lambo's in foc and we didn't have a ticket!
does anyone know/rember that guy mack, he wrote off a gt2 on his way home banghead

if anyone has pictures of a red lambo qv wearing LBO 156 from goodwood days or an F40 wearing same no. i would like to see them, the owner of the shocking pink countach is a friend of mine also & we used to travel down from the north of england together in convoy & stay over at mikes house (happy days), i believe that car (the pink one) is now beige or white?...at 1 of the last days mike held i went down in the yellow xj220s (reg no M1 TWR), 500 mile round trip...& got precisely 2 laps in before the marshalls intervened due to the noise.. whilst some old hurricane or spitfire was taking off from next door airfield !!...sad but true, Mr B.

the housing estate built in the 70s was the cause of all the problems with sound> aged about 10 i wrote to the local paper saying don't move next to an airfield and race track if you dont like the noise!

I think the marshalls used to stop people going in if it got over crowded, i think mike tried to charge for a few then it was decded that a charity collection would be better, i think the Venturis made an appearance at the later ones too, always like the camo one!

can someone talk him into doing another one for old times sake! although the track doesnt have the charm it did when it was run down (its a better place now though!)

i used to be allowed to go there in the evening and drive my formula 6 sized childs racing car round until sunset, happy days

Only managed to get to a couple of the last Carrera Sports Goodwood mad-uns, in 98.

I definitely remember Mike P. and his mate hooning about a bit on minibikes, (when the cars weren't on track) - no lids, smiles wider than their ears and holes in the knees of their jeans when they came back in…

I get the impression Goodwood locals are fine with many aircraft and helicopters almost all the time but a few cars / bikes every now and then is just unacceptable, poor mites.

When Vic Sawyer took his Murciélago there in 02, just after he had a (very much… louder exhaust fitted, it failed the standing noise test. A frenzied few moments of wedging as much cotton wool and loo roll into the pipes followed and after the next (inevitably?) failed noise test, large blobs of white stuff (ooo-errr) were last seen heading for the Canaries…

I have hundreds of photos of those Goodwood days.

Great to see that so many other P/Headers cut their supercar teeth at those great days.

Nowadays, very few events have the same feeling of those days, mainly due to Health and Safety crap.

But for the modern day equivalent, Supercar Sunday at Gaydon has a similar feel.

Cheers.

Ruttboy.
