That one was taken late in 1991, the tall gent was the owner and I believe the RV was his also!! The first Diablo I'd ever seen!! Know what you mean about the mirrors though!!

I went to the Castle Combe test days a few times in the late 80's/early 90's. Organised by the de Tomaso Driver's Club and promoted by 'World Sports Cars' magazine - anyone remember that one? I was in my early teens at the time and Countach-mad.

Favourite memories from those days were the 288GTO, reg 'BEG 4 1T', and a slightly scruffy looking blue LP400 that sounded absolutely gorgeous, but was sadly black-flagged by the noise police after only a handful of laps.

My best mate made a video for a Supercar Test Day at Castle Combe in the late '80's. I'll try and get a clip up on youtube once I know how to do it!!
Was that the official video? I still have my copy of that VHS from the April '90 test day at Combe. Haven't watched it in ages, but maybe I'll fish it out and give it an airing.

I have a load of photos, but unfortunately no way to scan them at the moment. I'll try and sort it out soon, though.

Here's one I scanned a while ago of the aforementioned 'BEG 4 1T'

Wasn't that the Alpine Audio diablo?? That featured in a few mags at the time and I have a few shots of it too.

Linking the Diablo with World Sports cars - yes I remember that too, pretty sure I have one or two mags stacked somewhere plus I have a video they made featuring the same H reg Diablo.

1984? That's interesting. I didn't start going until 1987. When did these events start and when did they stop? My last one was in 1993 I think.

I would love a white Espada, just like with a Countach, I think white suits it so well and shows off the lines and the ducts and slats etc.

Okay well that worked so here are some more!

Note Mr B and IanQV your car is the lead car on the second photo!

Mr B has not got many pics of himself in the lead so this one will take pride of place over his mantelpiece

Fantastic photos guys, apart from the amazing cars it is interesting to see Goodwood pre make over, many thanks for posting.

360boy, superb looking Espada, but was it a particlatly unreliable example?? You have both AA & Rac badges in the front grill

the white porky turbo was mikes, it was a 3.0ltr turbo with a few tweeks, i could not stay with it anywere in a 3.3 turbo running 1bar boost(350bhp ish). he did have plenty of problems with it though.
i think there were two pink countach's one was bright pink with a silver strip along the sill the other was a sort of beige pink, i think both did not stay those colours?
story was the guy ordered the bright pink to match his wifes listick(so i was told)?

Mike Pullens 3.0 litre 911 Turbo had the following spec (or it did in 1994) - Garretson intercooler, balanced bottom end, lightweight competition paddle clutch, cylinder heads fully ported and gasflowed to Porsche Group B spec, Group B racing cams, K27 turbo, silencer baffles removed from standard exhaust, adjustable boost (minimum of 0.85, at 0.9 produced 380 bhp, maximum boost of 1.2 equalled 410 bhp). The car was also lowered on its torsion bars and had adjustable anti-roll bars. Taken this info from a copy of 911 & Porsche World which had a five page article on the car back in 1994.

This is a great thread - I have many happy memories of the Carrera Sport supercar days!!

Firstly, GREAT idea for a thread Tim! thumbup

What's with that silver S1 Espada on a '77 R plate?? As for that photo standing next to a Countach, I have a photo similar to that of me standing in front of Frank Bradley's brown Countach FKB 1 at Mallory Park in the mid 80s. I was holding up one of those "My other car's a Porsche" stickers. hehe By a bizarre twist of fate I ended up meeting Frank a few years ago through motor racing. Trivia: Frank was highly rated as an F3 driver by opponent Ayrton Senna - gotta be the coolest claim to fame ever!
