I'm interested in looking at a 355 at this dealer. I'm just wondering if they are known and respected within the Ferrari-loving world? A lot of their stock seems to have been serviced and prepped for sale in their own workshops. Their website ( www.midland-ferrari.co.uk) says their technicians are factory trained so sounds OK, but when I come to resell will servicing by them be considered to have been done by a 'recognised specialist' by potential buyers? I've had a few "interesting" cars but this would be my first venture into Ferrari ownership so I want to tread carefully. Thanks in advance!

Chris I believe these guys are ex-Evans Halshaw Ferrari in Birmingham. I bought a 355 from Evans Halshaw and dealt with Roger Hollingsworth (a salesman) so I assume he set it up. He was a prat for what its worth but don;t know what the company's reputation is like. Craig

Thanks for the replies - at least these guys seem to be known in the Ferrari world, which gives me some confidence. Anyone here bought a car from this operation or used them for work?

I know a couple of guys who've purchased cars from them and have been happy with them. Chatted to Steve, who runs the service section and he's a top bloke.

Chris I bought a 355 Spider from Roger Hollingworth @ Evans Halshaw 5 years ago. Probably the worst salesman it has ever been my displeasure to meet. Had to virtually beg HIM to sell me the car and on delivery not one of the 10 jobs agreed had been done. He was a total prat and I'd love to bump into him again to tell him what I think of him. I was too nice last time. I should have told him to shove his Ferrari where the sun don't shine. I believe these guys are ex-Evans Halshaw Ferrari in Birmingham. I bought my 3200GT from them about six months ago, and have no problems to report, although I found the sales "process" a little disorganised. Steve Palmer definitely inspires confidence, though, and has been very helpful both before and after the sale. I'll most likely take the car there for its next service.

Craig [/quote] Hello Craig I am the only salesman at Hollingsworth’s and my name is Adam, Roger who is my farther and one of the directors did indeed work at Evans Halshaw about 5 years ago. Could you enlighten my fellow readers and me as to why you dislike him so much? I’ve noted that it seems to be one of the only things you talk about.

I stand by what I said earlier I'm afraid. I'll always give credit where its due, but if its the Roger Hollingworth (who mentioned to me at the time he used to be a bandsman) at Evans Halshaw 5 years ago, then he personally caused me a sh*t load of stress, and absolutely ruined the experience of picking up a 355 Spider I'd worked my way towards for the previous year. The car never moved from the position it was in from when I signed for it, upon delivery still in the same spot with nothing whatsoever being done that had been agreed, it was dirty, untaxed, no MOT, and a private number still on that he hadn't bothered to transfer (which was illegal since the insurance was on a different plate). No service books - actually never got them, no cover for the hood (part of the car anyway), and after I foolishly took it he evaded my calls, and in the end a new Dealer Principal got involved and sorted about half of it out. There's often two sides to every story, but in this case there simply isn't, and I am not the complaining type, but the service I got from Evans Halshaw and Roger Hollingworth sticks in my mind as the worst I ever had and I make no apologies for that.

Sure - I can give you the full picture. In fact a very similar story to Simon's. I went to look at a 355 at Evans Halshaw and dealt with your father on the phone. It sounded good and so I travelled up from London to Birmingham to view it. Roger showed me to the car but it hadn't even been cleaned and was parked behind a few cars so I couldn't even take it out. As I was so eager to get a 355 and the car seemed to be a good one I went for it. Roger agreed that the part where the wing mirrors join the car would be resprayed as there was some corrosion on them. He also agreed that the next cam belt service which was due the following year would be done FOC. I went to collect the car the next week and the wing mirrors were not done and there was no evidence in writing about the cam belt service. It took me a few months of pain to get both issues sorted out. As for your comment about 'disliking him - it seems the only thing you talk about' - I think you are proving the point like father like son... Craig

as an aside to this discussion. You have a Pagani Zonda up for sale at 310K, with photos of a car that appears to be in italy. Amari supercars now have the same photos of the car up for sale at 355K. There has been some discussion on another thread as to where the car actually is, and who owns it, and if your price was ex VAT and amari's wasn't etc. Anyway, would be interesting to know the taile as our company may be in the market for a zonda this summer but the whole thing looks a bit odd with Amari's intervention.... sorry to jack the thread btw.

i just bought a bmw (used 330ci) as my daily driver. The salesman returned my call promptly. 2 days later i bought the car. Any work that needed doing that wasnt possible to be done before hand over, HE wrote on the the invoice (without prompting). This is how it should be done. I personally have had bad experiences with "exotics" dealers and have heard plenty on here too. To me selling cars (especially to enthusiasts) surely cant be that difficult. You advertise, customers phone you, you call back if needed, you describe the car with some accuracy and when they arrive for a viewing by appointment, the car is in a presentable and drivable state. in this era of word of mouth being suplemented by the internet, i think a few dealers would be advised to brush up on their professionalism (rant over )

Hollingworth are all good in my book! Had dealings with them no problems... I have to say its a pretty impressive operation down there, with a real nice service centre. Bit of an Aladins cave! Its the same the world over, be sure of what you expect to get out of the deal and let them know. Any funny stuff get it in writing.

I must say so far so good with Hollingworth for me. I've been dealing with Adam and have bought the Anniversary Countach they had on their site. The car looks good and the deal was fair. The Service Centre inspired confidence too, and there were quite clearly a lot of customers using them - the car park alone was an impressive site. I haven't got the Countach yet though, so we'll see how it all turns out when I do. But if they are as good as their word and honour the agreement fully, then I'll be a happy man. I'll happily report my findings once I've got it and used it for a little while.

Looks like a nice example so well done! Craig
