On Tuesday my g/f and I went for what, in retrospect, was a somewhat ill-advised afternoon's drive over some very narrow Exmoor lanes (aka bloody cart tracks).

The highlight of this nutcase expedition was meeting a brand new Range Rover coming the other way along a single track road with a ten foot high bank on one side and a precipitous drop on the other. We stopped, but the RR kept inching towards us. After a few minutes' speculation as to whether the RR driver was going to push us along, or maybe drive over the top of us, my g/f got out and spoke to the driver:

G/f: "I say, would you mind awfully backing up 25 yards, and into the field gateway behind you, then we will be able to pass each other. Otherwise, we are going to have to reverse the sports car the two miles back down the hill (through the ford) to the village and, as I think you can see, our car isn't really very maneuverable on this sort of road."

Range Rover driver: "I don't think I will be able do that."

Fantastic pictures, the exmoor lanes are fun in most cars, you are brave tackling them in a Gallardo, fair play to you and your GF.

I have met quite a few vehicles up there on those lanes, almost all have been cool, and given way or allowed me to back up with no pressure.

But I did meet a chap in a Land Rover once, who wanted me to reverse down hill around corners, so he did not have to pull back 20M in to a layby get his wheels dirty, as i could not be assed to mess about with the chap, I reversed my car down to passing place, he drove past looking at me like dirt and that he owned exmoor (perhaps he did), but I am glad I did not ask him to back up, as he looked really ignorant, I did not fancy digging a hole on the moor. wink

Wonder if he has a new Range Rover, hope your girlfriend got him to back up.

Nice pics, looks like you had a nice drive. What I have always done is give way if going downhill, the RR driver must have been a plank by the sounds of it.

Last time, i got in a situation like that, the guy sat there and read a newspaper after refusing to move 10 foot if that, backwards....thing about reading hte newspaper was he didnt see me and my mate push my old hack backwards 400 yards and turn it around then pushed it backwards down the road... then knocked on his window, and said
"this can go one of 2 ways, you reverse back into the layby, or you drove into the back of my car whilst coming through the lanes"
the look of defeat on his face was priceless.
yes it did defeat the object as we used more effort in pushing the car and turning it around so the rear faced his front end. but we knew who he was, and he was a complete bum snacker.

some lovely pics there though
