Gents, the seller was not able to tell me whether the one I have purchased has a Skyhook system or not. How can I check that mine is equipped with Skyhook?
The Skyhook system didn't appear till the 4200. I don't believe any 3200s left the factory with Skyhook. I was told that some earlier 3200s have a form of adaptive suspension (a sort of precursor to skyhook) 3200 cars with this feature can be identified by the presence of a "sport" button on the centre console, in place of the usual "PWR" button. At least, that's what I was told...... could be nonsense!

well actually I have a sport button and the Maserati manual that I got from the dealer says that by pressing that button the car sets the suspension stiffer...At least, that's what I was told...... could be nonsense!

I have that button also
anyway the reason I have asked this because before I purchased mine I took a look around at many sources and I have found that in a lot of cases the Skyhook (if it is Skyhook at all) system was wrong. In my car at the moment diagnostics does not tell anything that is wrong ... only the left side valve cover gasket (if it is the right word) should be replaced. The oil filter replacement was a very good occasion to talk about the family of the engineers who have designed a big oil filter for a very small place ....Hi I'm new to the forum as I recently bought a 1999 Maser 3200GT after many years of admiration. A couple of niggles have appeared namely the passenger window has stopped working, and the handbrake now won't hold the car on my steep driveway (there have also been the mystery warning lights that come on and then go off but I'm waiting to see if any take hold). But none of these problems has affected my finding that the car is just incredible.
However I naturally intend to tackle as many of the problems as possible myself.
3200gt could you also send me a copy of the workshop manual please?
Thanks
Tom

You both have mail.
Tom,
The handbrakes on most Italian cars are pretty poor at the best of times. On the 3200 the cables tend to stretch and need constant adjustment.
The dash warning lights are often operator error. It is essential that when you first put the key in and turn to ignition that you allow the ecu to go through the checks BEFORE starting the engine. Only takes about 5 seconds. Failure to do so tells the car that there are multiple problems with the sensors and, no surprise its christmas tree time.
They are great cars which the majority misunderstand. Enjoy!

Dear 3200gt, can't thank you enough for this. Now with the manual I already have the window motor and regulator in my hands - without it I'd have been up a snake pit. Thanks also for the reading material - opinions do seems to vary. I'll need to tighten the handbrake as our drive is quite steep, in fact I had to have an aluminium ramp made to get over the peak onto the road.

Don't believe everything you read about them. Most of the issues are caused by operator error. Biggest mistake most make is not letting the on board diagnostics run before firing up. Switch on and wait for the dash lights to go out (about 5 seconds) before turning the engine over.
